You have two options. Either put Linux on it and run Windows in a virtual machine, or buy a second laptop that you only use for work. Because if your university requires monitoring spyware, then you don't need to be working and doing your studies on the same device.
You do personal stuff on a personal machine. You do work stuff on a work machine. And you do educational stuff on an educational machine. If you don't want to buy three physical machines, then VMs are your next best bet.

These are audio podcasts, not video, and it did work. Mind you, I couldn't have anything else going at the same time, but it did actually work.

400kbit/s is surprisingly usable. I'm able to use my podcast app at 1.25x on 256kbit/s so with near double that i'm sure I could use it on my standard 1.6x that I like to use.

Something tells me the article doesn’t understand the way Bitcoin works. A transaction takes 10 minutes to clear on-chain, unless you’re using the lightning network, and the lightning network is fucking terrible, especially for high-value transactions like this. Because you can be rug-pulled. That and you can’t send high-value transactions on a lightning network because every link in the chain has to have the proper amount of liquidity to make that transaction occur.

True, a place like Iran could keep it untraceable, although they would have to take some extra care in order to do so. But for your average person that's not being looked at by a nation state, it is much easier to remain untraceable.

It takes 10 minutes to get a single confirmation, but I’m assuming that it takes more than 10 minutes for a ship to transit this waterway, so it wouldn’t matter.

Well, thankfully, since on peer tube, your video is shared between all the peers currently watching. If your video gets super popular, your connection isn't actually hammered all that badly due to the fact that other peers are also supplying bits of the video for people.
As for the storage though, that's a very good point.

By comparison, Monero is actually quite stable because it actually has real-world usage. I would recommend using the six-month or one-year simple moving average because that stops market fluctuations from changing the value of your net worth in fiat.
Somebody above said that Monero wasn’t a good investment and I have to disagree. Because if I’m going to invest in a cryptocurrency, I would much rather nobody know I have it than to have paper fiat gains visible for everybody online to see.

I am seriously considering going to a Linux phone at some point in the future because what's to stop Google from deciding that we can't install apps even on AOSP? Like sure, for now it's only going to be devices with Google Play services that won't allow you to install your own apps, but who's to say Android 19 won't be released and completely kill the ability to install apps outside of the Play Store?

What I do when I'm shopping for a new phone is go to the LineageOS download site and look at what the mid-range devices are available for each of the OEMs and then make my choice from that list. Otherwise, the Moto G 2024 probably wouldn't have crossed my radar screen. A couple of years ago I had the Moto 1 5G Ace and thought it was a great device except that the charger port started to give out on it and so I couldn't reliably charge it. That made me realize that at some point I would like a device with wireless charging even if I do primarily use the USB charger so that if the USB port ever breaks I can just charge it wirelessly and not have to give the phone up entirely.

You don't need high specs these days. I was looking at the Moto G 2024, because it's the latest version to support Lineage OS, and it has a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, I think it is, which is actually just slightly better than my OnePlus Nord N200 on Geekbench, which is fine.
The main difference is that my OnePlus Nord N200 was released in 2021, and it has a lower geekbench score than the Moto G 2024, which was released in 2024, with a lower-end chip. But my OnePlus cost $300, where the G24 was released at $200, and is now available for $130.
So at its release, I would have gotten more storage and a better CPU for $100 less, and now it would be $170 less.

They have slightly lower density right now, but there is work to increase the density, and it could very well get up to about 210wh/kg which would put it directly on par with current lithium ion batteries. So it could replace the low end of the EV market without any significant change except for a reduction in price by a lot.
