PSA to Medical Providers with Neurospicy patients:
You see the “psych” history with “adhd” or “autism”, please DO NOT jump into psychiatry referrals when they express feelings of doom, persistent clouded thinking, or a different emotional candor. If they are also presenting to you, they are concerned it’s medically related, not psychiatric:
- ADHD isn’t a mood disorder, or lack of intellect, it’s a EXECUTIVE DYSFUNCTION disorder.
- Autistic brains process nervous system signals differently, again just different wiring and not a mood disorder.
- CPTSD really fucks up signaling and processing times on top of either condition. Both ADHD and autistic folks are more likely to struggle with unidentified CPTSD because this world isn’t built for them.
Keep your listening ears on and thoughts away from interpreting “feelings” as psychiatric. Neurospicy brains are smart, but interpreting senses or symptom timelines can be challenging.
