The National Weather Service in Sterling #Virginia has issued a

• Tornado Warning for... Northeastern Spotsylvania County in central Virginia...

• Until 700 PM EDT.

• At 628 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Spotsylvania, or near Fredericksburg, moving southeast at 25 mph.

  HAZARD...Tornado.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

  IMPACT...For those in the direct path of a tornado touchdown, flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Damage to roofs, siding, and windows may occur. Mobile homes may be damaged or destroyed. Tree damage is likely.

Showers most of the day tomorrow with highs only in the 60s, mostly south of D.C. 70s the rest of the week, with a few showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and evening. #VAwx

Looking further down the road, we have another week of relatively cool temperatures, before 80s return after the 16th. In the meantime, spotty showers tomorrow, then more widespread rain on Monday.

Sunny today and a little warmer but still comfortable, with highs in the low 70s. Upper 70s/low 80s Saturday and Sunday before another front moves through on Monday with more showers followed by cool temperatures. #VAwx #RVA #MDwx #DCwx

Showers are mostly concentrated south and southeast of #RVA now and so areas from Richmond north and west should be clear of rain the rest of the day. #VAwx

Looks like most of Wednesday’s rain is going to happen early to mid morning, with showers becoming much more spotty by noon and early afternoon. Unfortunately it’s not going to be enough to really put a dent in the drought conditions we’ve been under now for a while. #VAwx #MDwx

Frost advisories in effect tonight/tomorrow morning from Roanoke to Charlottesville to Winchester, with a freeze warning in effect for areas west that line. Temperatures will dip to freezing along and west of interstate 81, and in the mid 30s further east; for #RVA, low 40s. #VAwx

Cloudy and a touch chilly tomorrow (technically today now, lol) with highs only in the mid 50s; rain will be confined to far southeast Virginia; warmer next week especially Monday to Wednesday with low 80s likely. #VAwx

Clouds and fog early, then sun returns the rest of the day; highs in the low 70s; cloudy and chilly on Saturday, with showers likely south and southeast of Richmond most of the day. #VAwx

Still expecting scattered showers this afternoon and early evening across #Virginia and #Maryland, with an isolated thunderstorm or two possible tonight. Another shot of cold air moves in after Friday, bringing morning lows in the low 40s (and some upper 30s) for the weekend and highs only in the 60s. #VAwx #MDwx

Rain on Wednesday will arrive around noon or early afternoon in central #Virginia and central #Maryland and continue through late evening, with some thunderstorms popping up after 7pm according to the short range models. Temperatures the rest of the week will continue in the upper 60s/low 70s. #VAwx #MDwx #DCwx

Short range models show a few light showers passing through #Virginia today from northwest to southeast but fairly light and won't last long; a few spotty showers/storms also possible Friday afternoon, mostly over eastern Virginia. Highs in the mid 80s. #VAwx

Much warmer tomorrow, mid 70s for most folks, after lows in the morning near 50. Mid 80s return Thursday.

If you're waking up not feeling great this morning, temperatures right now are 30+ degrees colder than yesterday, on top of pollen levels remaining high. 🤢🤒

NWS expanded the freeze watch further east and south, to now include part of the Richmond area (mostly west of I-95). Still a bit skeptical of temps dropping below 38º in the #RVA but we’ll see. At any rate, it’s just for one morning, we’ll quickly warm up the rest of the week.

Just saw that NWS issued a freeze watch from Staunton to Spotsylvania to D.C. and into central and western Maryland (including Baltimore) mostly for Tuesday morning; temps in these areas will likely dip to freezing for a few hours between 1am and 6am (I know, I know…I had just posted last night that it didn’t look like it was going to get that cold 😬💀)

Not looking quite as cold now for Tuesday morning, most areas should stay in the 40s; maybe an isolated spot or two west of the mountains dips to the mid 30s but should be the exception.

Low to mid 90s continue through Saturday, then a cold front sweeps though Sunday with a few light showers, followed by much cooler weather next week. A rainy pattern looks like it'll set up after the 23rd which will help ease our drought conditions a bit. #VAwx #MDwx

Most of #Virginia is under a moderate to severe drought and that will only worsen as we stay locked into a hot and dry pattern for the next two weeks, maybe longer. I do think we'll back down from the 90s after this coming week but I don't see any real rain chances coming for a while. #VAwx

Pleasant this weekend with mid-70s abundant, then the heat cranks back up starting Monday with plenty of low to mid 90s all week; staying dry as well. #VAwx #MDwx #DCwx

Temps will rebound nicely after tomorrow with 80s and some 90s coming next week.

The extreme temperature swings will continue, as we go from 30s in the morning this week to morning temps in the 60s next week (with 90s for highs!)

Potential overnight temperatures Tuesday night/Wednesday morning behind Sunday’s cold front could dip into the upper 20s west of the Blue Ridge/Shenandoah Mountains, so some folks might have to keep that frost cloth handy a little longer to protect sensitive plants.
