HEY NERDS! I'm trying to put together a few cool facts to drop into a work chat, and since it's disability pride month, I figured I'd look around for cool stuff on that front. Anyone got new favorite cool adaptive tech or other awesome disability/disability-adjacent links or bits of news that they particularly like?

@drawnonglass@wandering.shop I mean, depending on how you define 'computer', you'd have to go back before fuel injectors. I'd settle for "not networked to anything outside of the car" as a starting point, though.

I had minimal brain capacity yesterday so I fired up Cookie Clicker and today I saw this, which I don't think I've seen before, and, uh, yikes?

@5ecurityChemist@infosec.exchange @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange Anywhere in the greater Boston area, possibly in most of eastern MA, you run into the problem that hotel rates are pretty exorbitant so it's going to be challenging for anything where a good chunk of your audience might not be expensing it. Even if you start looking at areas around here when you're willing to sacrifice public transport accessibility, it's still pricier than other cities of the same size. I do think there's an untapped opportunity for small scrappy events around here - there was some small one-day infosec conference in the past year or so at the Arts at the Armory building in Somerville - that's a big room with a balcony that will hold, I think, like 300 or 400 people? Obviously, if you can get event space at a local college you could do it on the cheap, too. Minutecon looks like it might be cool - I've actually not been at an event at the venue they're using so I can't speak to how the the event space is there. Hopefully they do well. Layer 8 has done well in Providence, I think, for a few years, which is not Massachusetts but also not far from it. :)

@kevinbowen@hachyderm.io Thanks! So far it's being mild, I have paxlovid, and between having a space big enough that we can sleep separately and weather where we can keep the windows open wide, we're kind of playing on 'easy mode' as far as it goes.
