Yes. It’s the same thing, except when I joined the market knowing fuck all about computers, while coding with my cute little BASIC commands; there wasn’t some tech bro asshole telling all the C programmers that their skills would no longer be required. Or at least he wasn’t saying it quite so loudly. Incidentally, I still work with that same C programmer, I’m still learning from them, but have since taught them a trick or two; and we both now charge sinful amounts of money for our time.

honestly there are build tools that could do that for me, I don’t need to buy tokens for that. Yes. This is where every “have you tried Agentic AI?” conservation lands, for me. I could daily, for worse results, to give up the bash script that has worked perfectly for five years. Oh, gee. Tell me more! Haha.

The mechanical turk, the robot maids of the 70s, etc. Yes. But I’m still salty that I still can’t buy a robot maid. I figured they would exist by now, for about the price of a vacuum. I’m not demanding that they actually be any good. We could just program them to quote “The Jetsons” and do some simple vacuum pathing…

Why doesn’t it just edit files like it normally does? Haha. Yes. But it does everything the most probable way, according to all the stack overflow it has swallowed. Sometimes that way makes sense. Sometimes not.

Yesm Every one in awhile someone marvels at a particularly good AI answer. Even back in the days when the scam was the first chess robot, those moments were a sign that the “secret backdoor to let a real human take control” was in effect. But nobody reads history, so they’reb just amazed. That output is from this guy named Sandeep. His work situation is stupid now. But yes, he’s a great programmer.

That’s true, but they can still charge double by taking longer to fix the problem. There’s going to be a lot of “# decrement this wait counter every time the boss demands a performance improvement” code in the near future. Open class warfare isn’t a sustainable way to build infrastructure. We’re on track to reach a point where nothing produced by the FANG companies works at all.

Yes. Epstein taught us it’s also about running a large scale kidnapping and rape organization. I sound like a broken record, but today, we need to be wary that very few of the Epstein class are proven to be innocent of being complicit in child abduction and rape. Maybe that’s always been the case? I know the history of the ultra rich has never been nice. Anyway I find it an important perspective when deciding how much to trust the rest of the messages out of the Epstein class.

I just want to highlight this, “The fact that he thinks typing out new code took so much effort basically means that he was never a decent programmer.” Grear point! This is a critical insight. Like during the dotcom boom, new tools mean new people can program the computer who could not, before. And just like during tht dotcom boom, they’ll soon find out that programming a computer - while very slightly easier than it was last year - still has challenges.

I’m not a computer expert or planning to be. I don’t use Arch, but my perception is that it is meant for people who want to be computer experts. Do you have any reason not to use Linux Mint? As others have mentioned, Mint has 95% of the benefits over Windows that Arch has, and Mint is designed for folks who just want to use their computer.

Haha. I don’t believe in destiny, but the things you like about Windows are the things I liked about Windows before I switched to Linux. You’ll find many other fans of cracking / Liberating software, here. It’s where the “Libre” we talk about comes from. Anyway, keep asking questions of you’re curious. I’ll just add that I haven’t used the command line against for anything basic on Linux in several years. It’s really not necessary anymore, unless I’m doing something advanced like modding my games.

And someday my ashes will be absorbed into some other living thing. And whatever it is, that living thing will find their ashes and take a steaming dump on them in honor of the lost memory of their stupidity.

disadvantage to installing librewolf (or something similar) as my primary browser instead of default firefox? LibreWolf comes with more anti-features disabled. You’ll discover which websites are built by assholes. Many answers will not surprise you, but a few might. LibreWolf can be configured either site-by-site or globally, to allow whatever anti-features you are comfortable with, but the disadvantage is needing to change the settings. The advantage I like in LibreWolf is itships without stupid crap like Google search or Pocket. Since I always remove both, LibreWolf saves me some time, overall.

Yes. Great point. I do try to give each game a test run before I schedule a group of friends to play it together. I guess I did that on Windows, as well. When I was a big windows gamer the result tended to just be it works or it doesn’t, on my current hardware. But maybe that’s just gaming today. I think we have better optimization options, in general, now. I’m not sure when things changed, as my journey was Windows PC Gamer to console gamer to SteamDeck to Linux PC gamer. I think PC gaming, in general, got much nicer while I was only playing consoles.

Additional analyses show global stocks of fake accounts are highest for platforms such as X, Uber, Discord, Amazon, Tinder and gaming platform Steam, while vendors keep millions of verifications available for the UK and US, along with Brazil and Canada.** Interesting stuff. I would guess this accounts for why products with only 4 stars on Amazon are so often shit. Real consumers only seem to affect the last star out of five.

Anecdotally, I have found Conversations (XMPP federated chat) is better for battery life on GrapheneOS than Signal.

The onramp is more complicated. I learned the hard way that uptime history is the only aspect I really care about when choosing a server.

All XMPP accounts on all XMPP servers can talk to each-other, as long as both user’s home servers are up and running.

Oh, and you need to turn on encryption - it is optional. OMEMO encryption is widely supported and good enough for casual chat security.

You can just look up the information on the web, but how do you know whether to trust that information? With open source, it’s easy to get caught lying, or even just pushing on the boundaries of good ethics (* cough* Ubuntu cough). If it’s controversial, it is possible to verify the claims.
