why buy expensive SSDs and HDDs when the internet can be your filesystem? why risk getting multi-billion euros cloud estimate in your email to ruin your day?
a short note on one of my favorite fallacies of modern computing: if data stays in flight long enough, perhaps it is not really consuming storage at all.
this was also a good excuse to revisit an old idea from my friend Piotr Jabłoński - that with enough high-latency links, maybe persistence is just delayed arrival with good marketing. there is a rust prototype, which means the bad idea has reached a respectable level of maturity.
take a look at my latest weekend project - a post (and a code repo) available at https://lukasz.bromirski.net/post/internet-filesystem/
