📚 I just finished reading Consider Phlebas: A Culture Novel
by Iain M. Banks

This series was recommend to me, because I was complaining about all Science Fiction nowadays seemed distinctly distopian. Well, this actually includes an utopian society. The book has a lot of humor and great world building. The action is constant, and there are no boring bits in it.

At the start I was a bit sceptical about the whole game theme, but the novel quickly became a very interesting tale of the Culture.

📚 I just finished reading Developmental Psychology in Action
by Clare Wood, Karen Littleton, Kieron Sheehy

Reread this old study book from the wife to see if there was anything interesting in it. But it's kind of dated, and these books focus a little bit too much on who researched what, and not so much the full story of how we diagnose certain things or why we decided to treat conditions in a certain way.

📚 My book review of Villa Maarheeze

Yes, the Netherlands had its own CIA. Spies and everything. But with about 1% of the necessary budget, and you get a typically Dutch version of it. Always underfunded, more lucky than competent, the IDB was never going to be a great success. This book gives a fascinating insight into the service, it's reason for being and ultimate demise.

📚 I just finished reading The Coming of Neo-Feudalism: A Warning to the Global Middle Class
by Joel Kotkin

What an absolutely godawful book. Kotkin has obviously no interest or any knowledge of the European feudal societies of medieval times. He uses this lack of knowledge to shoehorn his theory into. It just doesn't work. Yes, big tech entrepreneurs are rich arseholes. That has nothing to do with how feudalism worked. Fuck off, Kotkin.
