I love when I’m opening a workbook and Excel pops up a dialog box that says “Excel cannot open this file because a dialog box is open.” I click ok - which closes that dialog box - the only dialog box - and the file opens.

It’s especially sad because it’s 100% unnecessary as a whole, much less the specific aggreivances toward our best neighbor and trading partner. I know it’s small consolation, but most Americans love you guys just like we always did. 🇺🇸🇨🇦

I've written off companies for this, and I've written off news sites that say "we notice you're running an ad-blocker. Here are instructions to disable it." No, I don't think I will. A straight up paywall I get even if it annoys me - these sites have to make money, especially in the age or AI scraping - but don't make me open my computer up to all the bullshit ads and tracking to read your free article!

Pleased overall with both the new notching system and 3 of 4 of the pictures themselves. Scanned at 1200 DPI and lightly edited in #Darktable (I removed a few dust spots, cropped, and upped the contrast very slightly).

You can tell from one of these pictures especially that we are still in a pretty heavy drought.

It worked!!! The rounded notches don’t look quite as round as I’d like, but I should be able to easily work on that. Might make the “5s place” notches square instead of rounded, to easily distinguish from the triangular notches…but as long as I know rounded is on the top and triangular is on the bottom, might be a moot point.

I can also tell I need to take a wire brush or something to get a few remaining burrs off that the rocket blower didn’t take care of. Easy fix. I’ll be going through and doing this for the rest of my film holders…it will make matching shots to my notes much easier without the futility of trying to keep track of the order I load on the reel in the dark bag. Especially when I bracket 2 or 3 exposures of the same composition.

These frames, from front to back, are numbers 10-7 descending. I hope to be able to scan these tomorrow, albeit at the mercy of my “real job.” I was a little nervous because it was hot today and the tap water was pretty warm, I calculated a developer time of only 3:15 but my effort to load and unload chems from the tank rapidly along with the rotational development seems to have been okay. These negs are uniformly dense, at least they look to be so when wet.

Took files to two of my film holders for an experiment after reading about this method as well as a few others. This one seems easier to use than the “binary notches that you have to hold up to a scale” method. I’m a little skeptical given I was supposed to file only the bottom layer of the bottom hinged piece - wouldn’t the top layer still mask the end of the film sheet?

But no harm in trying! Round notches are 5s and triangle notches are 1s, so this is frame number 7. I just happened to have holders labeled 7-10 at the top of the stack of empties so that’s what I started with. Hoping to take a few exposures this afternoon to test (as well as as an excuse to test the new backpack I got after lugging my #CrownGraphic up a mountain trail in a shoulder bag…

If anyone has tips or knowledge about this method or how to improve it, please let me know!

Okay...last migration for a while. Determined that (and I should've thought to look this up before hand) Pixelfed cannot display text-only posts (which means none of the great banter with the photog.social folks that I've been enjoying) as well as the fact that pixelfed.social also appears to be defederated from mastodon.art, whose draconian policies photog.social will largely inherit per the new admin's post. So, this should be a good middle ground where I can interact with my favorite photog.social accounts as well as accounts on pixelfed.social, mastodon.social, etc.

Plus I already know there's good people here too (thanks @pauliehedron@infosec.exchange ) and the wonderful @jerry@infosec.exchange runs a number of other services I've enjoyed...so my patreon just shifted to infosec as well.

Oh, and for your trouble - here's a photo of the sky from this past weekend.
