Currently debugging a set of opensource tools for automatic backyard bird detection using a Raspberry Pi.
Amazing as the tool is (it works!), it's an unholy goulash of procedural PHP, Python, and bash scripts.
I know we all like to swear at Drupal's code sometimes, but it's *immaculate* compared to this thing.
It pays off to leave the island once in a while. Puts things in perspective.

DrupalCan shows you have considered organising a smaller event outside the US.
Was it so unpalpable to skip a year or two in the US and work on two smaller ones in Canada?
Can the Drupal Association actually survive without DrupalCon USA revenue? If not, then maybe that should be front and center instead of ehticalwashing the Orlando choice.

Given that the average snooker club table is not 100% level and does not have a cloth without dirt and other obstacles, it's super frustrating to work on your snooker technique when you're not sure if you're doing it wrong, or if it's the table.
Not unlike when you're writing custom Drupal code and it's not working and you're not sure if you're doing it wrong, or it's Drupal (core/contrib/...).

It might suit your purposes and they might be happy to accommodate community projects.
