A: It's the hops (aka popularity).
Best way to see how #tor is different from standard VPNs is with nyx. VPNs can have no logs that clear in the server RAM.
VPNs can have binding to clients and kill switches. I2P has hidden eepsite IP addresses like tor onion but the
directory information is public. Multi-hop VPNs usually only have and entry different from and exit; tor has 15 or more
circuits with 2-3 nodes per circuit. That's a lot of hops. Tor is the only network with it's own uniform OS, TAILS. Mullvad VPN
also has a uniform browser. Tor is refactoring to Rust while other network modalities remain stale with high latency. I2P eepsites and tor dot onion are a virtual
private cloud, but there is no eqivalent for VPNs, unless it is a VPN to a corporate cloud (intranet). But anonymity is the
centerpoint of privacy in tor, so what matters is, again, the number of hops (relays). There are other features not
mentioned, but what is meant by the "VPN" in torvpn is really the maqsqerade/gateway or, in other words, the local-side configuration
of the networking to pass all traffic over tor.

Have you ever tried compiling #rust on an electro-mechanical (rotational, HDD) drive? Just look at htop (mem) go. Perfectly legitimate reason to crash on a couch for the night waiting for the magic to happen.
