Once I have my music gone through and deduped, as well as tagged, I will likely never have to run it again; as the music my server ingests is already properly tagged.

Greetings Lemmings! I am not new to self hosting; been at it for a few years. And I have neglected a very important part of my home lab; MUSIC! So I stream music from Navidrome to all of my devices. My music library has grown organically over the years, for probably the past 17 years. And a few times I had manually organized and fixed up some of the tags. But ultimately I ended up with a mess of a library. I am working on cleaning that up. Though I absolutely should have cleaned it up before I created 2 backup scripts. In short, I have a script that is called from a systemd service on a timer that runs my backup script that essentially more or less uses rsync to mirror the files in LiveMusicDir to MusicArchive1. This happens on my docker host where my Navidrome lives. The Music is on an NFS share hosted outside of the docker host. The next step I run another similar setup on my desktop; systemd service running a script on a timer that uses rsync and other dependencies to track changes. What I plan to do is organize the source. I am using beets, and learning as I go. What methods do you use for managing a large music library?

There is Limine, which is something I use. And I use it with Arch, using systend.

What started off as a kid as mild interest in something “different.” Different in the sense that it was different than that of what I grew up using. Anywhere from the lame old school Mac computers in primary school, to the Windows PCs that were everywhere. I did go to school for a degree in Cyber Security; and of course got my hands on some different Linux distros over the years, so between my younger years of tinkering, and schooling I had exposure to Linux early on. Fast forward a bit, years and years pass by and I was a Windows user because that was just readily available and accessible and what I had primarily used for most of my life; and I was getting fed up with what Microsoft was doing and pushing. That being said, I initially switched from Windows 10/11 to Arch Linux out of hatred for Microsoft. Well, my reasoning has changed drastically. It used to be because I hated Microsoft and all of their shenanigans. Now I use Linux out of love for Linux. Sure, I still hate Microsoft; but that is a naturally progression the further I get into my niche. I love open source, and my beliefs on open source has permeated through other beliefs. I think that the collective of human knowledge should be effectively “open source” and available to all. We shouldn’t be limited on what we want to learn just because of a corporation or business entity says they arbitrarily own a subset of knowledge. Anyways, tldr; started as hate for Microsoft, and turned into genuine love for Linux and Open Source Software.

Good to know! Thanks for sharing. Tempus seems quite nice. Though Android Auto didnt work for me last I checked even with the update.

I personally use Navidrome to host the music, and there are multiple android clients; personally I use Symfonium, but there is also Tempus and Tempo. Jellyfin can also do Music. The Music I put on Navidrome already has correct metadata, so I haven’t worried about that aspect. Its easy to maintain because I run it with docker.

I use Wireguard. For a GUI I use https://github.com/ngoduykhanh/wireguard-ui since I'm not running Wireguard in a container.

Good news is that I was playing around with DNSWeaver, and got it working with Pihole. However, this gives me incentive to move off from Pihole because DNSWeaver can't create TXT records for tracking which DNS records it creates so that it can clean up after itself. So now I am torn between Adguard Home and Technitium. I just wish I could find a guide for getting Technitium working to at least on par with what I have setup.

Again, thank you for your suggestions! I am contemplating switching to Adguard or Technitium from pihole. Just gotta figure out how I am gonna approach it

That's good to hear! One feature I wish I could find was automatic DNS record creation for new docker containers I spawn. Can't wait to check out Technitium.

Pihole + unbound on the same box as my DNS has been super simple for me. I didnt do a lot of extra configuration for Unbound, I used mostly the guide that was on Pihole official documentation. As for reverse proxy, I have Caddy setup. And to access my homelab I use wireguard. Most of my services run on a separate box running docker. I've woven most of it together bit by bit. I'm slowly upgrading different pieces and its lead me down a rabbit hole. So I found this post intriguing. Biggest hurdle with Technitium for me is the lack of documentation. I can say the compose file they provided has lots of comments. That doesn't solve for a few pieces for me though. Systemd-resolv uses port 53 on my host box, and I have to find out the ramifications for disabling that and using Technitium. That and I am unsure of what extra capabilities I have to grant that container. And I have to find out how adding it to my reverse proxy docker network. So its gonna be trial and error I suppose! I'm looking forward to getting DoT or DoH or DoQ setup.

Thank you for sharing the link to your previous post. Will definitely read up on that! I think I will skip Adguard just due to not wanting a license. I do wish they had more documentation on this stuff for Technitium. Though it does seem like a cool product.

Perfect! I saw there were addons once I spun up a quick docker container for it. Though, I feel I may have a bit of configuring to do to get this working. My host server uses systemd-resolv so I may have to wrestle with that. Thank you!

Sounds like I am going to dig into some documentation for Technitium. When you mention the "Advanced Blocking App" can you provide a link that for more info by chance? I had zero plans of running both, more of a situation where I would want to try Technitium and then switch once I know everything is working! Thank you for the info!

Has anyone used this and Pihole and have some thoughts on which they would use and why? Currently using Pihole myself. For adblocking, and a local DNS server. I also have Unbound configured and installed which my Pihole uses. Anyone have any insight on this before I work on spinning something like this up?
