I've felt this when I watched for the second time after approx. 30 years Explorers (Joe Dante, 1985) which made a strong and very good impression on the kid I was (then I just had the souvenir but didn't know the title, for a very long time). There was something similar, though much less disappointing with the famous 1983 Wargames. Difficult to feel the same magic when you're an adult and have been working long enough with computers! We count on you to tell us if the Hardware - M.A.R.K. 13 scenario is good. :)

@causticmsngo @stefan These watches just work and last very very long. Mine is from 2010 or so—a simple model, nothing expensive. The wrist brace has long been broken but I keep the watch in a pocket and it still works like the first day. Good Japanese electronic device.

@tusharhero My favorite thing in dired is r, aka wdired-change-to-wdired-mode from wdired.el: rename stuff by means of normal editing actions. Combined with keyboard macros, this is great for quick renaming of things according to a “pattern”. #Emacs

In binary64 floating point format, it is represented (normal number) by 52 bits: 01000000000000...0. 10.0 being a positive number, the sign bit is 0. The exponent is 3; to represent it in binary64 floating point format which uses 11 bits for the exponent field, we add the following bias to it: 211-1 - 1 = 1023 = 0b01111111111 which results in 1026 = 0b10000000010. One belonged to a security company that routinely installs packages from PyPI and scans them for malware, a workflow that treats registry contents as safe to run. How is it possible that a security company treats packages that it intends to scan for malware as safe to run? This doesn't make sense to me...

@kolya@social.cologne Indeed, I've never heard about it before. I was a teenager in these years, watching Terminator 1 & 2, Mad Max 2 (and the first much later)... IMDB shows a poster where M.A.R.K. 13 is the title and HARDWARE the subtitle.

@kolya@social.cologne Ah, this predates Back to the Future by about 3 years. Maybe it gave Robert Zemeckis some inspiration? (though I suppose the paradoxes brought by time travel are likely to have been explored even earlier) The end-of-episode note from the Wikipedia page shows an educational concern which reminds me of a great animated series for children that was broadcast in the very same period, namely The Mysterious Cities of Gold (French page). Other animated series from the same years with this educational concern that were good though less entertaining IMHO, because they were made of almost or completely independent episodes: Once Upon a Time... Man, Once Upon a Time... Space and Once Upon a Time... Life. These were supposed to turn us into smart kids, but animes like DragonBall eventually took their place, so most of us remained dumb.
