For the past few years, I’ve been working on a Hebrew font based on my handwriting. Partly this is because my handwritten Hebrew is 100% straight lines, but also because I have not had a lot of luck finding a Hebrew font that is actually legible for me at reasonable font sizes. Nikudimot are a particular problem, but unfortunately not one I can resolve. That font, Amefist, is now available on my website.

web accessibility inquiry: is there a way for me to specify how a sequence of characters should be read by screen readers?

specifically, I habitually spell God as 'G?d' (capital G, question mark, lowercase d), and I want a screen reader that encounters it in an HTML document to read it as 'God', if at all possible. this is for a personal project that I plan to make public when I complete it.

@vi_zzyzx ear defenders are not going to do shit for me, unfortunately; one of the consequences of the birth defect causing my deafness is that I hear via bone conduction, i.e. my entire skull is my ear bones because the actual ones don't have anything to attach to (per exploratory ear surgery nearly 25 years ago). which is something I will get to explain when I go in. (I don't mind explaining, since it's not a common circumstance, but it's a component of why dentist appts are sensory hell enough for me to be avoidant.) ETA: also I'm going to wait until the appt's confirmed (on the basis of if they don't accept my insurance it won't do me any good anyway because I have no ability to pay) before seeing if they can get me in sooner.

I did that whole process with Social Security nearly two years ago; my Social Security profile should have an F marker. Regardless, it is ridiculous that I cannot express a preference independently of what Social Security's records show.

if those motherfuckers at Social Security changed my gender marker back to M I am going to be incandescent.
