If there will be minor only platforms it will enable predators to easily get in contact with minors. Without doubt that those are in fact minors.
Also trying to buy such accounts leaves people open to scams. So if a minor tried to buy one to access the big people internet, they are easy targets for a scam.
Besides being heavily targeted by big-tech.
Its not like they couldn't possibly know that it is a minor and their privacy is absolutely not something they're going to honor with their track record.
You can protect children by giving them choice. They need to be the ones with control over their internet usage. Would you have learnt what to do and what not to do if you weren't told that the internet is a dangerous place where you shouldn't share ANY personal information?
Let me put it like this, how will you learn how to walk, run and/or jump safely if you could only do so in a bouncy castle until your 18th?
My bet is that you'll run into the nearest wall at full speed.
The internet can be dangerous, always has been and always will be. Teaching kids that they should share their private things with everyone who asks is the most dangerous president you could set.
Think about it. If our kids are taught that if someone asks for your I'd they would quickly share it without thought. What if a predator would ask for proof in a chat. What if a shady company would?
What if a shady porn site would? Child traffickers will have a field day knowing the brand and stock of their prey.
Even if they couldn't buy that information outright.
In ye olden days it was tons of fun trolling predators. Why not teach our children that joy? Have them be capable of making their own journey.
Think back to what you wanted as a kid.
