@codingjoe@fosstodon.org although I'm not a fan, publicity stunts/bragging does work in most cases, other wise we did everything in my power to quote in quote deliver value for the business, as an example when a project we needed to work with needed to handle very large files, instead of making that for the company only we submited a patch upstream to support object storage, another time we submitted a patch to make it support client side uploads, maybe we got lucky there, but if you really look into it there always a place that can be improved, this was interms of actual time and effort, on the money side every quator i woud pick a package/framework that we where using and made a report of how much time it was saving us, and depending on that we would make donations. in all honesty i think most CEO/Manager just don't know or don't have the time to figure out this for them selfs, but if you approach it the right way, they tent to see the value in it.
personal take: what ever you do please don't go near the one core model, it's just good for marketing and has no benefit for opensource, there is too many companies/products taking advantage of the opensource label.
