@douglasvb@m.ai6yr.org for me, the first thing I would do is definitely rule out the DSL itself. Can you have some stats from the DSL router/modem get pushed somewhere to watch for issues? I suppose your ISP has already been doing that.

So many businesses closed. Restaurants left as they were on their last day open. Not just in the old downtown areas. Everywhere we looked. I haven't been to these places in years. Compared to what things were like the last time, it made me sad.

@leerayl@infosec.exchange tnx. I've realized that my needs today aren't what they used to be. And I'm paying for stuff I don't really need.

Anyone have Visible Wireless (the MVNO run by Verizon that uses their network)? They have a limit on hotspot speeds, max is 15MB/s on high end plan. I have Verizon now that doesn't limit the hotspot speed, so I often get more than 150MB/s. But wondering if ultimately I don't need that speed anyways. The most bandwidth intensive thing I do with the hotspot is web meetings or streaming services. Visible is significantly less expensive and on the same network.

@HopelessDemigod@mstdn.social There is plenty of good history in Salem. Around the corner from this picture is where Alexander Graham Bell made the first "long distance" phone call to Boston. Called Lyceum Hall at the time, it is now a Seafood Restaurant.

@jzb@hachyderm.io Unnecessary urgency and/or unplanned work (due to someone else's poor planning) must be extinguished as soon as possible! People will try to push your buttons and tell you that it's expected of your job. In almost all cases, it is not.

I just asked Copilot (consumer version) to help me locate an auto part. It just confidently informed me that the part should be in stock at a local Advance Auto Parts. The store they suggest doesn't exist. I scrolled down and it shows that AutoZone also has the part. Also at a store that doesn't exist.

Many of these folks that do airport streaming of aircraft activity are not very good camera operators. But they are doing _something_ that others enjoy watching. And they'll get better over time.

The downside is that it's wireless using a little USB-2 dongle. That's likely part of the reason it works so well. But not supporting Bluetooth, even if it didn't work as great, is a bummer. I can plug it in (with a little USB-2 to USB-C adapter) to my PC or my iPad and it works great on both.

The microphone noise cancelling on the HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 Wireless Gaming Headset is no joke. Blows almost everything I've ever used out of the water, including Apple AirPods Pro 2.

Cyberpower 1000VA UPS just shuts off. Battery was low so I assumed the battery needed replacing, so I did. Battery status looked good and it appeared that the battery was charging, so I put it back in service. A couple of days later it shut off again. New battery shows zero capacity. Hmm.

The dog and I were waiting out in the vehicle while my wife was doing some shopping. We took her vehicle today. So, to pass the time, I did with any normal person would do and I read the vehicle manual.
