I was 25 when it happened. I had only been a "fair-weather" F1 watcher, up to that point ... I would watch if I saw it on the TV. I did catch most of the races and was an absolute Ayrton fan.
That fateful day, I missed the start of the race and only turned on the TV to see the chopper taking him from the circuit.
It hit hard, particularly that I missed the incident. I have since then never missed a live qualy or race in the last 32 years.
