Husband, Father, InfraOps Engineer. The 'K' in KDL. If the Operating System had ‘OS’ in the name, I rode that dead horse.

Randomly contributes to open source projects.

Has used core RAM and acoustic couplers.

Licensed HAM.

Personally never ran Windows.

Has never run Arch, BTW. (Update: I have now run CachyOS for a week on a laptop with the Nala compositor and Noctalia shell)

I'm also an award winning motorcycle builder.

Never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.

You can’t stop the signal, Mal.

It’s been a week but I’ve been really happy with my new PC build. I went with large fans and airflow and I really just never hear it. Counting the GPU and PSU fans, it sits at 10 fans: 6x 140mm, 2x 120mm, and 2x 85mm on the GPU. I think the ONLY thing that I feel like I gotta change is the annoyingly blinding blue LED in the power button. Blue LEDs already annoy me but heck it’s bright. I think I’ll pull it out and put a soft white LED in it that barely glows. I fear it’s gonna be a lot more disassembly than I want to do, though, so I might live with it and put a piece of vellum over it or something. It seriously lights up the wall across from the PC. I dunno WTF happened, but in the last few weeks it seems Gmail’s spam filtering just decided to stop working. What is normally a 50 email per week box for me has jumped to over 1000 emails a week. It’s nuts. #gmail #enshittification

The rest of the parts arrived today for my newish PC build. Except the motherboard. It's been in town since Friday, but the ol USPS decided to move it to a Monday delivery. They decided this after 5pm today. I am saddened I wasn't able to build my newish PC today. It's been decades since I built a PC. Last time I can remember building one was for BeOS.

I haven’t had time to mow in over a month. Each opportunity I’ve had also lined up with right after a thunderstorm. Grass is currently soaked from overnight storms. I bet it’s happy out there. Too hot to go outside right now and the moisture is making it too humid. Bleh.

@rpmik@avgeek.social @younata@hachyderm.io @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I liked MREs bit we're talking late 80s, early 90s. We had things like a real ham slice and chicken ala king and basic items. Not these crazy things they have now. @rpmik@avgeek.social is right though- that fruit cake was good. I remember it having more the flavor of an orange/cranberry bread. I did like the dehydrated fruit mix and cheese spread as well. A local grocer sells them and once a year I go grab one much to my wife's protests. Maybe I'm just odd.

(Update: I have now run CachyOS for a week on a laptop with the Nala compositor and Noctalia shell) I'm also an award winning motorcycle builder. Never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup. You can’t stop the signal, Mal. Header Image: BeOS Desktop.

@mtrnord@gts.mtrnord.blog @Linux_in_a_Bit@infosec.exchange no, I get that. It's like yelling into the void. You had said a few hours in your comment. A day or so, I can see the frustration. For me, it's not so much time, but how so many use Discord these days as a support channel. No history to even search, really.

@malte@anticapitalist.party @Slacker@mastodontech.de because you don't buy a car to tweak the engine until you know how the car works first. Then you learn about the engine. Then you tweak it. Many 'noobs' are mad there isn't a bolt-on upgrade to rice it. i.e. a double-click method and that it takes some learning. At least, this is the experience I've had, and so I just don't bother helping anymore.
