The fingerprint is already pretty effective. Putting a astounding like 01/01/1970 would add a small admit of precision, but likely not enough to make a difference.

Name a single Discord replacement that has anywhere close to the coverage of end-to-end encryption that Matrix does. Unless you’re willing to sacrifice literally every other feature except text chat, I don’t think there is one.

They’re still far more encrypted than literally every other alternative.

Saying “people consider them to be closer to those they talk to the most” isn’t moving the goalposts.

Geographically yes, but I was mostly referring social and ideological distance tend to be even more important that geography, especially in modern times.

It’s human nature to care about those close to you more than those far from you.

Unfortunately, I’m not surprised in the least. During his first term, he wasn’t nearly as unhinged as he was during this term, because he was still building his cult, which he continued doing after he lost the 2020 election. With the 2024 election, virtually everything lined up in his favor. The Democratic candidate was somebody who had not even been in the primaries, the size of his cult was at an all-time high, and the political division was even further increased from 2016. Even with all that in his favor, he still didn’t show his most unhinged ideas until after the election. Anybody with a reasonable amount of intelligence would obviously have voted against him, but forward thinking doesn’t seem to be a common trait these days.

It’s at least partially the American emission standards, which loosen the emissions requirements as the size of the vehicle grows.
