I think I need to set a rule with free and open source software: if it's being evangelised and pushed, especially in a smug, condescending or otherwise generally circle-jerky sorta way, seek alternatives. It always seems like in the FOSS community, the jankiest shit gets evangelised while the stuff that's working or otherwise pragmatic gets left behind.

Thankfully, Bluesky's moderation team suspended them.
Bluesky culturally is anti-AI in the same way as fedi, dismissing even the sort of things that those groups of people would benefit from. It burns me out to the point where I've basically stopped caring.

@jackemled before the MacBook Neo I would never have recommended macOS but it's generally pretty hard not to recommend that.
Meanwhile on the Linux set up I put on for my family (specifically Aurora since it's immutable and auto-updates), I had audio problems where it was crackling and to this day, I don't know how to fix it. That's when I decided to just throw Windows 11 on there for the time being.

@irfan The funny thing is I constantly ran into OOMs on Linux when running virtual machines, but not on Windows. (same VM software, VMware)
AFAIK Windows is more aggressive with swap/its pagefile. Not as sophisticated as what macOS does but still resulted in a better experience for me.

Not surprised. The water overuse claims that ideologues spread are basically myths but even in the case where it is true, it's funny that people would rather waste water than deal with the Linux community.

@Apolly0n the other one was 1440p. With this monitor, I can get 1440p working space at 150% scaling and have a nice working space plus smooth fonts, which I do care about more nowadays for readability purposes.
Initially, the 1440p monitor was to have no scaling whatsoever to maintain compatibility with Linux which does have scaling issues, but that isn't really an issue now since I'm not using Linux on this monitor. (and if I did, I'd likely be using KDE anyways which is best for fractional scaling)
Feeling inspired to update my old post about leaving Linux after reading this. Particular mention on the part stating that their friends who had used Arch moved back to Windows. That's how I feel too.

@Apolly0n Same. My post was mainly about Linux users having to actually think about what display server they're using to make sure they'll get the best performance (or compatibility, even) being a huge plus for Windows, where you don't have to think about it, well, at all.
Funnily enough, the fractional scaling stuff I mentioned a little while ago plays into this as well since X11 has better compatibility but good luck if you have a 27-inch 4K display.

Frankly, no-one should really be thinking about display servers at all and that's why Windows is better for the desktop than Linux lol

My power copule on Tomodachi Life seems to be Danny Estrin from Voyager and Hagar the Horrible.
LibreOffice has this really annoying quirk with conditional formatting on spreadsheets, where if you delete a row, it will alter the selection for that formula and it looks like unparsable gibberish. I use conditional formatting a lot and I won't lie, it does annoy me.
Gonna see how OnlyOffice handles things.

Also PLEASE don't tell me "streaming bad". I have a local library, streaming is simply good on discovery, whether it's Spotify or Bandcamp. That local library is also why I'm on Windows, but I've whinged about that one more than enough.

I have to say it felt like the Writer's/Animator's Barely Disguised Fetish when Bowser Jr. trapped Rosalina's full body using goo. The animation in particular made it feel a bit fetishy ngl.
Switched back to my 4K monitor with scaling and man... yeah, I missed the smooth fonts so fucking much.

@mihamarkic Rider, in fact - both Windows and Linux. Worked fine on Windows, not on Linux, "generate resources" basically did nothing.
I think my generator was different though, I don't remember it being FileCode.

also, if you're going to whinge about centralisation, I have bad news for you:
The Fediverse is essentially micro-centralised. If your instance dies for any reason, your online presence on the Fediverse dies with it, with very little recourse, and some of the steps taken to address this are not consistently applied (in comparison to AT Protocol/Bluesky where recovery and migration are a core part of the protocol).
If you wanted true decentralisation, then idk, you'd be on Nostr by now.
tl;dr: FASP is perfectly fine for how fedi works!

When I used Linux, the barrier to an app like MusicBee was so real that I did end up using Spotify more. On Windows, Apple Music is so ass that I ended up using MusicBee more.
