It really wasn't that long ago...and that was in a big city. In many months the air was putrid. If you care about your lungs and your quality of life you'll want to care about greener alternatives to fossil fuels.

@briankrebs@infosec.exchange Anyone who believes in coal should google "Black Tuesday St. Louis" Black Tuesday in St. Louis refers to the severe air pollution event on November 28, 1939, when thick black smoke from burning soft coal combined with a temperature inversion to darken the sky so profoundly that streetlights were needed during midday. This event, often called "the day the sun didn't shine," reduced visibility to just a few feet, causing traffic paralysis and earning St. Louis a reputation as the nation's dirtiest city. I can tell you that 20 years later we were still dependent on coal and although the air was a bit better, it was still putrid and made me sick.
