In the early 2010s I worked at a cross dock facility for GM parts that had the doors open 24/7 with no heat in the building except in the office where the women worked. Used to back the forklift up into a trailer to have a smoke and warm my socks and feet on the exhaust a couple times an hour (-20 to about -30c thru winter) Spring and Fall was fun when the cement would freeze and thaw so it had a thin sheet of water everywhere. You slide sideways into a trailer with your load. Working in that place, which I think was highly illegal, learned me the ways of the fork. That was a shit job but I'd unironically go back because every day was fun

Those are some hardcore conditions. I've heard legends of forkchads who would put hot coals into the seat bucket to keep their asses warm Worst I ever had to do was fill a thermos with hot water to sip to try to keep my temperature up in the winter. We were inside but the cheap ass company wouldn't pay to heat the warehouse, they just offered us some extra free cotton hoodies Something about operating heavy machinery just pleases a man's soul

Here in Pennsylvania we have the opposite problem where it gets so hot in our warehouses over Summer that I've seen people get sent to the hospital on multiple occasions. Naturally the companies prefer to spend money on literally anything other than air circulation or cooling (except for the offices) when we work inside big uninsulated metal boxes.

One of the places I worked a manager had to sneak a minifridge into the building and hide it in his room in the inbound office just so he could keep a stock of free water for us instead of making us use the vending machines
