Chemistry is "the central science" Physics is... whatever the megalomania is claiming today... Computer science isn't even a science Biology is amazing, only reason I'm not dead yet #Epidemiology is the science of "you put *what* in your body now???"

#targets #rstats question: what's the current package folks use to create targets that actually generate other targets with the {targets} package? I have some repetitive target creation I'd love to automate...

Normally this wouldn't bother me. But we have Commander brainworms at the helm so I think he could manage to get a #COVID26 out of this: https://www.manilatimes.net/2026/05/06/world/who-tracing-over-80-people-on-flight-taken-by-hantavirus-victim/2336441

RE: https://bayes.club/@wronglang/116523922178978220 The major problems with predicting outcomes in epidemiology is not predicting the behavior or hardiness of infectious organisms. The problem is figuring out if a group committed to living doorknobs will arise at any given time. Currently the US is under control of #TeamLickDoorknobs #SocialEpidemiology

#JayBhattacharya got famous writing speculative #CoViD19 fiction that put entire nations at risk without much relevant background. Now he's concern trolling the statistical design of vaccine studies as though he cares about rigor. You know what could've used rigorous peer review? The #GreatBarringtonDeclaration ... ๐

An #LLM can never be held accountable So the person who prompted the #LLM must always be held accountable. The person who constructed the #LLM must also be held accountable. The person who convinced others that an #LLM was suitable to a specific task must also be held accountable. "I was just giving orders" has never been a convincing defense.

It looks like #palantir and #thiel are hard at work confirming their fetish for choking on anti-humanist rhetoric. It reads like a list coughed up by ChatGPT trained on a novel titled "Horny For Hitler". The message I'm getting is that they have too much money so they're wasting CPU time and imposing higher taxes on this bunch is a great way to reduce hardware costs for people in productive industries.

It's undoubtedly worse to trust thinkfluencers and bot leaders over medical doctors and engineers, but when we teach people that expertise is an exercise in authority, well, we've set up the equivalence and we shouldn't be surprised that people take the leap from one source of authority to another.
