GOA2026: Pass 2, Part 2 520 more journals checked for a total of 1,000 (2,696 more to g0), A fair number of fixed xm/xx and added articles. It takes longer to succeed (adding new info) than to fail. The rest could take four days to two weeks to complete, maybe more. #goa2026

GOA2026: Pass 2, Part 3: 500 more checked for a total of 1,500--well over halfway. (1,196 to go.) Fair amount of progress. #goa2026

GOA2026: Pass 2, Part 4: Another 500. 2,000 done. 696 remaining. Good progress. Next report will be final--two to four days, depending on real life. #goa2026

GOA2026: Pass 2. Complete--but the results for Iran over the past week or so have been so good, I'm rechecking the 242 "XX" Iran journals that are still there, before finishing up. (Now, if there was some sign that Egypt might finally fix its problem... But otherwise, I anticipate doing finishing touches in a couple of days. Then come several weeks of data massaging and book preparation, but a temporary dataset will probably be available. #goa2026

Great flyer from The Billionaire Calif. Governor Candidate with zero gummint experience. He's good? No, one of his many opponents--the one who has Cabinet-level experience-is Bad and Takes Money from Unions and Others. Nothing like flat-out attack ads to show your credentials...maybe as a hidden Republican. I would say the flyer affected my preferences--but I wasn't going to vote for Big Bucks No Experience or Apparent Platform anyway.

Gold/Diamond Open Access 2026: Data gathering is complete, and a little cleanup work reduced the dataset size very slightly. The overall summary--and a pointer to a preliminary version of the dataset--is at https://walt.lishost.org/2026/05/gold-diamond-open-access-2026-data-gathering-concluded-prelim-data-available/ NOTE: the prelim. share26 has been modified--NOT the data, but the order of columns, now newest-first. #goa2026

#goa2026 Due to hardware and software issues, there will be no weekly summary this week or daily summaries until order is restored--which should take roughly a week. Completion of the first pass still possible in very late April...but not certain.

Apparently another big-deal person was defrauded of a whole bunch of cryptocrap, in this case Bitcoin. I'd like to feel sorry for him (it's usually a him), but...well, when you're "investing" in nonsense, you can wind up with nonsense--and, with crypto as with generative "AI", help burn the world in the process. That limits my sympathy.

An unoriginal thought: Nobody with reasonable intelligence would use the term "Low IQ" as an insult--and if that nobody proclaims their own high intelligence in the process, you can be sure they're a jackass and probably an ignoramus.

GOA2026: Pass 2, Part 1 480 journals checked. The good news: a fair number either added articles or went from problematic to clean. The bad: The nearly-complete inaccessibility of Egyptian academic and society OA journals continues. I scanned the rest of them after seeing lots in the first 160+; in all, 318 Egyptian journals timed out, none recovered. A shame. Another report in a couple of days. #goa2026
