Great fun in the ARRL DX CW contest this weekend: over 300 QRP QSOs. Here's a short video on a really helpful trick with modern radios during CW contests: https://youtube.com/shorts/j_Klch4Pp0E?si=ENbLJ2py3W9qhLYs

Got Pat Winlink / ARDOP working with my IC-705 and Digipi today. We have a monthly emergency exercise in this area, and I'd set a goal to be able to check into it by Winlink.

Using a NanoVNA to test the centre frequency of the filter on this 1940s GR-10 receiver, I found it is 445 kHz, not the 455 indicated in the manual. Because this was maintained by the Canadian airforce at least into the 60's, someone retuned the local oscillator to around a 445 kHz offset, too, which is why the filter sounds so good.

Finally, a 12v USB-PD battery and trigger cable arrangement for QRP rigs. This demos it with a 4w QRP xceiver, but it later even sourced enough current for my IC-705 to do 10w. Take note, all you QMX builders.

It seems that FreeDV contacts should count as 'Phone' with respect to ARRL awards such as DXCC. As I'm trying to get these with 5w or less (900 mW on the digital modes), this is an interesting development.

We've harvested about a cup of syrup from this grand maple in our forest so far this winter. This is about the two pails full. All has gone on breakfast pancakes, HopelessDemigod@mstdn.social

With VU2NXG freshly confirmed, I'm two more away from DXCC QRP CW. And CX1SI and I just had a 2xQRP contact on 10m.
