I have never really maintained a tidy desk, but having children who sometimes use my desk really brings home the difference between my carefully curated mess and you know, *mess*. Our glorious stack of notes vs their inexplicable pile of paper, etc.

The “tech” industry, whatever that means, has always had issues, of course, but the past five years at least has progressed into an almost daily feeling of “is this what it feels like to have a stroke”.

“This tool is helpful but requires a stupidly verbose json config whose format I do not control. I should make a simpler equivalent for the realistic subset I’m working with.” (Sane, helpful) *I enter a fugue state and discover two thirds of a DSL in my editor* (Ok, clearly entertaining myself here, but valid) *It’s in emacs lisp* (I have some sort of Disease)
