The entire tech sector screamed about the vulnerability of IoT devices, plenty of which are now participants in zombie botnets. Does anyone remember in 2015 when YESCO billboards by the thousands were hacked to show Goatse instead of an AT&T ad? Pepperidge Farm remembers. IoTs are still vulnerable, including big municipal ones and, yes, Flock Safety cameras. And CISA was severely broken had its staff severely reduced by DOGE. In unrelated news the CDC, also a victim of DOGE, is entirel...

Capitalists don’t like honest competition, since it requires them to research positive innovations. But Marx tells us (in Das Kapital ) that the capitalist will always be seek to bypass regulations and ultimately capture the regulating government. And yes, the scientific advancements of the moon shots returned $14 for every $1 spent. Using that as a reference, lobbying federal and state governments return $120 for every $1 spent. TIL private equity consolidated all the firetruck manufactur...

Historically, the Democrats actually care about the scandals of their own. Al Franken was solid as a US Senator, and yet when allegations came out of sexual harassment, he was pressured to step down, even when he expressed remorse. As came out during the #MeToo movement regarding the predatory patterns of Harvey Weinstein, most women are not given regard when they report sexual assault or sexual harassment, and with the rise of the internet and social media (which allowed for the dialogue to s...

The problem is sexual assault is not taken seriously by law enforcement, nor has it in recorded history. Ant this is a problem not unique to the United States. In fact most municipal counties have an immense backlog of unprocessed rape kits. So most SA, by far, goes unreported, most reported SA goes uninvestigated, and most investigations don’t lead to encryptions. This is why Epstein could proceed with his predatory ring and expect to get away with it. I believe her style movements in res...

That’s one of the reasons Palantir is being contracted for law enforcement and national security at the Federal level. The whole point is to detect early when a community is organizing, then paint the key figures as Antifa and incarcerate them permanently. It’s part of Peter Thiel’s vision of using technology to bypass democracy and create a techno-feudal corporate state. It’s absolutely not going to go as well as he believes, but a lot of people are going to suffer in the meantime.

We learned that a lot of jobs are this thanks to the RTO mandates after COVID-19 pressured companies to let everyone telecommute when possible. Two things seemed to mainly motivate people to return to office, even though it cost more in commute time and fuel and workers productivity suffered at the office. One was that companies were still leasing office space that was now mostly empty, and that made upper management sad. And the other is that a lot of clerical jobs are just there as the entou...

I assume it was Christmas like Narnia Christmas; not quite the same holiday.
