journalistic malpractice: an article about starlink that doesn't mention the billionaire destroying the night sky getting incrementally richer with every hock piece like this https://www.theverge.com/reviews/898580/peakdo-linkpower-2-review-starlink-mini-battery

Laughing pretty hard at the opening sentence of the wikipedia plot summary for the novel The Running Man, first published in 1982. Speculative fiction, indeed.

@apple, what the hell are you doing? Arguably, you shouldn't have an ad business at all. Putting ads in maps, adding a layer of friction between the user and their goal, is some serious BS. I don't want to have any more reasons to stop using your stuff. Curious to hear @gruber 's take on all this. @sixcolors should relabel "services" as "rent-seeking" in the chart dump every quarter.

Anyone else fed up with this? If I add an item, ostensibly the very intelligent tool is supposed to categorize it. Why can't it see that roma tomatoes are already in the right section? @apple stop fooling around with liquid glass and make your core first-party apps actually work. Death by a thousand cuts!!!

Dear Microsoft, Stop trying to shove copilot down my throat. I'm forced to use your software at the office, and this shit is just getting in the way of doing my actual work. Kindly fuck off, -c

wow, the PDF reading implementation in the iOS version of Outlook is absolute trash. Does it implement its own custom gestures or something? Trying to read a PDF and every time I scroll it thinks I want to zoom in. Tapping to get rid of the chrome is very inconsistent. Landscape mode wastes the page drawer space gratuitously. This is some amateur ass shit

#liquidglass on #ios26 is sort of mostly OK, with a handful of glaring problems. They will get fixed. But I seriously do not understand folks that are fawning over this thing like it's the best thing since sliced bread. The more I use it, the more it feels like a college kid said "I have an idea!" and no one stopped them. Design features for the sake of it, instead of bringing the considerable resources of #apple to bear on actually making useful new features.

#ipados26, however... liquid glass aside, the menu bar, windowing, multitasking! this is the best thing to happen to an ipad in many years. it's infinitely more capable, useable, and comfortable now. They didn't need liquid glass to make this happen, though. just sayin

#watchos26, basically they effed up. there is no place for the visual gimmick of liquid glass on this screen. stop it. turn that crap off. the main thing i like about it so far is that the weather complication finally works instead of saying "--" all the time.

A co-worker yesterday whipped out their brand new cosmic orange #iphone17pro and I'm surprised at how quickly I got the tech lust. I walked to the Apple Store at Carnegie library in DC and bought a blue one. Coming from a 14 pro, it's kind of bonkers how improved so many things are. Now I need to replace all my lightning cables and rethink my cable organizer and get a USB-C cable for the car and, and, and, and. Ah well.

Haven't worn contact lenses in about 20 years. Just got a supply of daily disposables, popped them right in. I can see!

last weekend, I replaced two aging 4ft. fluorescent light fixtures in my basement with LEDs. It's as bright as the sun down there now. Also, now that I can see, the basement is like super dirty
