General question to BSD Lab users. What would you like to see this instance run on, FreeBSD or OpenBSD? Not saying it will change from FreeBSD that it is currently on but it would be nice to see differing opinions. #bsdlab #BSD #FreeBSD #OpenBSD

Not sure about you @oxy@social.bsdlab.au but I get pretty poor speeds from #FreeBSD #pkg . I'm trying to work out where the bottleneck is because it is frustrating for a large fleet compared to #OpenBSD and #AlmaLinux updates: [223/223] Fetching mariadb118-server-11.8.8: 100% 51 MiB 2.9 MB/s 00:18

Seeing some big borkage in the #FreeBSD pkg repo for 15.1. When did it blow out 500% ?? Fetching data: 100% 539 MiB 8.1 MB/s 01:10 Processing entries: 76% Unable to update repository FreeBSD-ports

Oh the joy of a dead #FreeBSD system because I did a major release upgrade during ports borkage. I wonder if I'll be able to get this host up today....

So #Telstra was feeding all their network gear straight from Stratum 1 servers. If they had intermediary Stratum 2 servers in play with constraint facilities, the bad 2006-reset Stratum 1 server would have been ignored, saving the network from complete disaster. #mytake https://www.theguardian.com/business/2026/jul/17/telstra-missing-software-update-undocumented-design-change-outage

Hmmm, I'll back #Telstra here. Network kit isn't like a consumer mobile phone. It doesn't need to be replaced as frequently as your telly #auspol

I wish there were more technical people that understands these things within parliament. Hansen-Young, while trying to do a good job, she is out of her league #auspol

Sounds like we are going to have an influx of new #BSD users. Shame the DE makers pinned to #SystemD as it has made it hard to move things along to give these new users a comparable experience #systemshit

Search is busted over on https://freshports.org . Since when did you need an account to perform a basic search? The internet is turning into a big steaming turd. #FreeBSD #freshports

@hkrn@mstdn.social When will investors learn? There is no 'get rich quick', the only way that happens is fraud and corruption. RE: https://mstdn.social/@hkrn/116875297465587680

So #soccer, not a real sport, it's just another fake sport like 'pro' wrestling. No longer just theatrical dives but also corruption #fifa How anyone takes it seriously* is beyond me. Plenty of other sports out there to follow with better ethics. * Women's soccer is a different story, pride and dignity is on show there.

@phessler@bsd.network @hkrn@mstdn.social @stucchimax@social.secret-wg.org I wish APNIC pricing was at parity with RIPE as we well and truely get reamed down here, well over 10x for ASN and #IPv6 resources. I don’t know how the smaller countries in the South Pacific can actually afford these fees.

@hkrn@mstdn.social Wow, we get absolutely reamed by APNIC down here. @stucchimax@social.secret-wg.org @phessler@bsd.network Can other parts of the world use RIPE for ASN and portable #IPv6 ?? RE: https://mstdn.social/@hkrn/116865679433536008

Trying to de-#fedora/#redhat at home. Do I do a 'quick' reload of #Debian on the big desktop??? Why no BSD you ask. 3 killer apps, Signal, Steam and Discord. If someone solves that, then I'm over (for that machine).

I should get on this Friday tunes bandwagon where I play an album the way the artist intended and without stream (my own collection, I don't do streaming). #CD #music #fridaytunes

As usual, slow mirrors for #FreeBSD pkg sets. It doesn't have to be this way: [18/26] Fetching gcc14-14.2.0_6: 100% 94 MiB 2.1 MB/s 00:47 #retrospeed

@dexter@bsd.network @Dianora@ottawa.place @scott@mastodon.clitheroe.ca Shame I have a stack of Lenovo laptops... OpenBSD works better on those than FreeBSD (FreeBSD needs lots of wrestling to get it just right on these but they bork themselves regularly when they come out of sleep).

@lattera@bsd.network Back here in Australia, we look on in horror. While our system is far from perfect compare European peers, it is night and day compared to the USA. And to think some of our nut job conservatives want the same sort of system…
