@eyesquash@mastodon.world Why is C used for the middle, as in “middle C”? I suspect the answers are related, but don’t know, and am now curious. Obviously using A through G is arbitrary, but then why put C in the middle, rather than D, which has the virtue of being the symmetric middle, with three notes below and three above? Or, as you suggest, start on A with all whole notes?
