This week I learned the difference between Apple Pay and Google Pay. In the case of the former, everthing is handled by the card provider and Apple does not have any visibility of the transaction. In the case of the latter, quelle surprise(!), Google processes and sees everything. Apple charges a fee, Google doesn't.

Sorry to report the demise of the GWR reservation hack for #Interrail pass users. &quot;GWR have removed the ability to make seat and bike reservations from their website independently of buying a ticket, after it was discovered that the QR codes it generated could be used as free “golden tickets” – successfully passing through ticket barriers and on-train scanners. Happened upon a de-badged, ex-East Midlands Railway Meridian heading into #Euston. #Lumo will be using these on their new service to Stirling which starts later this year and which will bring #DuttyDiesel back to this stretch of the line a few months after Avanti dropped their Voyagers for IETs.

Last leg of my current #Interrail pass today, day four of four... Amsterdam to London. There are queues for security and passport control at the UK terminal. Well-managed, though, and the whole thing is done in about ten minutes. The departure lounge, half-built the last time I was here, is full. Not oppressively so... some people are standing but with a squeeze everyone would probably have a seat.
