Selfhosting Sunday! What's up?
It’s been a while! Let us know what you’re currently working on, what exploded, what cool stuff you found, or just brag that everything is running fine unattended. I haven’t been doing a lot, renovate auto upgrades for patches and sometimes minor updates work great so far. I got involved in my union to spin up a mastodon server soon, so there’s a new project, but I already run mastodon so it shouldn’t be much of a deal, I just need to get comfortable with the infrastructure. I also set up ntfy...

[AIT] paperless-ngx 3.0.0
Paperless-ngx is an extensive document management system. 3.0.0 has just been released. It seems from a user/admin perspective that a lot of obsolete stuff under the hood got removed and they did some performance stuff, but it’s also full of AI features. There’s too many changes to read them all though, I wonder if there’s a blogpost or something somewhere summarizing the main changes. I think the “regret” post misses an entire point, that Codeberg doesn’t want to be the place where AI stuff is hosted. Maybe it wasn’t clear in their communications but it always seemed to me the copyright and resource stuff was more of a justification of something they wanted to do anyways. Also everyone suggesting AI should just be treated as a tool comfortably ignores the externalized costs. Maybe there’s some “yeah it sucks but we can’t to anything and it so we just use it” and that’s it....

I absolutely don’t want Meta Tags in every titles. It makes reading the list of posts super annoying. I also don’t feel the need to know whether there’s some AI commits, but I do want to know if a project is largely vibe coded. I don’t have an objective metric on where this line could be drawn. I think the status quo is kinda fine. Some commenter will point it out and will get enough upvotes to be visible on first glance. It’s not perfect but good enough for me.

GitLab Act 2 - A letter to our customers and our investors.
Lots of layoffs (“re-evaluating our operational footprint”) and switching to “agentic” processes. Target user is AI. Anyone still hosting Gitlab?
