  Normally I use two monitors for work because it's easier for me to monitor chat and read PDFs on one, while I work on the other. The secondary monitor gave up on me yesterday. It's not salvagable. I will have to buy another one. Friends, I'm having to alt-tab between windows and it is most unsatisfactory...

  Ugh, it looks like I have a tax bill. It's not huge and I will be able to pay it off over a few months, but also boooo, I already paid tax this year 😅 Why do I need to pay more?! And to find out how to pay less, I have to pay an accountant to tell me...

  Weeping my way through the workday because Jarrah deteriorated SO FAST on the weekend and we made the difficult but kind-of-only-good-possible decision to take him to be put down this morning.   Cool crow* thing that happened the other day, and which I just remembered: So the backstory is that sometimes the crows (ravens) like to nick off with our chooks' eggs, and honestly I'm OK with it because I love how cheeky and clever they are, and they don't take many eggs. The other thing you should know is that our chooks are free-range-ish in a fenced off section of the garden, which (for now) is secure around the edge but open to the sky. It's a few weeks until the chooks...

  In an effort to enjoy life more, I've been trying to get back to stuff that I really love, the sorts of things that always have made my heart sing, you know? One such thing is playing music. I took lessons in piano and oboe when I was younger, and taught myself some basic chords on the guitar. But I also wanted to try something new.   How is your day going, friends? Mine has been pretty great – no work today as I took leave so I could have a long weekend. Taking Kid2 to work in a bit and will pick up some vegies for tea, probably going to bake a cake at some point too. Arranged to meet a friend for coffee tomorrow and possibly on Sunday, but apart from that I have few plans, which means there's plenty of time for unscheduled gardening and reading 🥰 #today

  #ThreeGoodThings + I've been trying to avoid unnecessary supermarket trips, so I didn't buy berries until I was grocery shopping yesterday, and it's so great to have them again at breakfast after running out last week, yummo + it's grey and cold here but in between showers the birds are singing and doing fly-bys through the garden + I have an extra long weekend this weekend (I booked some holidays) so today is my last workday for the week and it feels like such a win #food...

  Our little Sebright has died and while she was probably quite ancient in Sebright years (we got her as an older chook three years ago), we're still a bit sad, because Sebrights are SO SUPER and delightful and she was very much my favourite. She was so fast! She made the cutest little sound -- different from the croaky croons that the others do when they're going about their day. She was a remarkable escape artist and spent a couple of weeks hiding in the neighbour's gar...

  Kid2's shift got changed which unfortunately meant I needed to take her to work rather than her catching the bus, but! On the way home I took a slightly longer route to drive past trees and I saw a wedgetail eagle coasting up high above the canopy 😍 What a gift! I actually wowed out loud! #birds #nature

  If anyone needs us over here in the far corner of Western Australia, we'll be prepping our boats and sandbags... Just kidding, it's fine so far – more steady rain than torrential downpour, and nothing like destructive winds and flooding the poor folk further north have had to endure. It is *quite* wet though.   EDIT: Wow, thank you all for the many amazing and helpful suggestions! These are great, thank you!
