Los Campesinos! at the Liquid Room in Edinburgh this evening were absolutely stunning. So much energy, from them as well as from the crowd. One of the best gigs I’ve been to in years. I’m just buzzing with delight. Set list here: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/los-campesinos/2026/liquid-room-edinburgh-scotland-434f0b7f.html

I had been looking forward to a photography trip to the Bass Rock tomorrow morning - I'd rented a nice lens for it and everything - but it has been cancelled because of weather conditions. Disappointed :-( I will probably be back in Scotland again for a few days in September, right at the end of the season. There are some spots available on the last trips of the season - I might try again then. https://www.seabird.org/boats/bass-experience

Yesterday was Slow Marathon day for me: https://sunpig.com/martin/2026/04/26/marathon-walk-from-oostzaan-to-almere-saturday-25-april-2026/ (Today was also Fast Marathon day for Sabastian Sawe, who broke the 2 hour barrier in London - an amazing achievement. I'm not even doing the same sport as him, though.)

The 6th annual European Gull Screeching competition took place today: https://www.gullscreeching.eu (This is HUMANS screeching like GULLS. Not people showing off how well their pet gulls can screech.) https://www.nu.nl/326026/video/deelnemers-krijsen-longen-uit-lijf-bij-ek-meeuwenschreeuwen-in-belgie.html

I don't need another project right now. But sometimes it would be really useful to be able to send someone a link to the kind of photos I like to make...

Today I learned that the German name for a gannet (the bird) is "Basstölpel" - and that they're named after the Bass Rock in Scotland, which has a huge breeding colony of these magnificent creatures. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basst%C3%B6lpel

The music app formerly known as iTunes no longer automatically produces an XML file alongside its own (binary) library database for other applications to consume. But there is a menu option inside the app to generate the XML file _manually_... So I guess I'm learning AppleScript now.

So, I rented a FLIR thermal imaging camera for the weekend, for the serious purpose of checking the windows and overall insulation of our house. But you can also take cat pictures with this thing. #caturday
