History of Transportation Jen Mapes shared this USA map labelled History of Transportation showing various forms of transport from a wagon to maybe a car and a unicycle! All in crosstitch, not completed yet, this is a template at a thrift store. Jouvençon Today would be my late father's birthday. He grew up in this little village in the Saône-et-Loire, France. I was passing by the city hall and saw the map on the wall. With the national motto "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity", I had to take a snap and share it. If you look at the street names, you won't find streets, only "paths" and "road to". https://mappery.org/jouvencon/

Went to see "The Truth About Harry Beck" at the Cubic Theatre (London Transport Museum) yesterday. Brilliant. Even if you think you know about Beck and his "Diagram" you will learn and laugh in this charming performance. Performances until 5th January

Under Admiralty Arch SJT Riley’s Under Admiralty Arch is a charmingly traditional spy story that whisked me back to the biting winter of 1953. Centered on Robert Lynnford, a crime reporter caught between a suspicious assassination and a desperate Polish refugee, the novel excels as a brisk, very readable mystery. The atmosphere of post-war London is thick and effective, and while the plot twists are well-executed, they rarely offer genuine surprises for seasoned fans… https://agoodread.feldman...

Critical Minerals – The Global Supply Chain Listening to the news about the impact of the current war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, I was prompted to think about critical minerals that could also have massive disruptive impact in geopolitical turmoil. I asked Claude "Can you build a dataset of the most critical minerals, where they are mined (mine sites or countries), shares of world production, price changes over 5-10 years, main usages so that we can build… https://knowwh...

Invitation From A Dictator Rory Clements has knocked it out of the park with Invitation from a Dictator. If you’re looking for a historical thriller that manages to be both a relentless page-turner and a deeply clever piece of storytelling, this is it. The Sebastian Wolff series just keeps getting better with every installment, and this latest entry feels like its most ambitious and rewarding yet. https://agoodread.feldman.org.uk/invitation-from-a-dictator/?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medi...

I've been vibe coding quite a few maps over the last months: learning a lot, getting a bit better & writing about each map, what worked/went wrong and tips for others. I pulled them all together into a Map Gallery (with a little help from my friend Claude) at https://knowwhereconsulting.co.uk/map-gallery/

Flags on the Bayou If I were stranded on a desert island and could only bring the works of a single author to sustain my spirit, I wouldn’t need more than half a second to choose James Lee Burke. Whether he is navigating the grit of modern crime or the shadows of historical epics, Burke exists on an entirely different plane than his contemporaries. He doesn't merely write; he paints with words, crafting prose so tactile and evocative that you don’t just read his… https://agoodread.feld...

Lego Melbourne Samuel Molena sent me these pics of his colossal lego map of Melbourne. He said: "I once visited Scienceworks Museum in Melbourne when I was 10, they had a really cool model of Melbourne using a mix of Lego and craft/modelling materials. I really wanted to make my own version, so I spent 10 years gathering the pieces I needed with a few different jobs over the years, conveniently in the city allowing me to spend my off time mapping each city block 1… https://mappery.org...
