The encyclopedia will outlive whoever happens to be running WMF today. Your authority to host the encyclopedia is exactly as strong as the trust you maintainThis is pretty crucial. If things get bad enough and people are motivated enough, the entire text content (and a large number of images) of wikipedia can be re-hosted elsewhere from one of their data dumps and if enough editors move the encyclopedia can keep running without the old corp behind it. Firefox helpfully translates emojis across different languages, for instance "😊" in Chinese is "😺" in English.
