I seem to remember there was a Preference setting in Masto to disable DMs but I can’t find it now, is there a way to do that? @vmstan@vmst.io

Just discovered that the Elgato Stream Deck app constantly sends and receives data even with auto-update disabled. I have no network widgets enabled on the Stream Deck. And by constantly I mean continuously, I can’t even comprehend what it thinks it is doing 😡 Just added a rule in https://objective-see.org/products/lulu.html to block that noise. #streamdeck #DataProtection

https://prospect.org/2026/04/08/mass-protest-where-are-the-kids/ > One of my students at Brandeis, very much a progressive, told me that “No Kings doesn’t have a clear political message,” and displays “the weakness of the Democratic Party in effectively opposing Trump.” Feels like oligarchy has already accomplished its goals, they have made the next generation into sheep that the wolves will herd and cull as desired. The old are easily dealt with, all they have to do is wait.

An elite hacker should create an exploit that installs the previous version of Vivaldi on the computers of every techbro ever and force it to be the default browser.

@User47@vmst.io Essentially performative, the percentage of anyone trying this is negligible and training data will be sanitized for obvious garbage before being used. And the models are already highly capable, you’re not going to make a model stupid with some Markov nonsense pages. I think vocal pushback by a lot of people is a lot more effective at trying to take a stand against the overuse of AI.

@julian As someone who’s been on Fedi a lot longer than you I feel confident in saying that this is a terrible take. The cranks and HOA are a distinct minority and get pushback all the time. I find it extremely tiresome to have posts like this continuing to push this narrative of ‘Fedi sucks’ because it’s cheap engagement 😑

@dangoodin@infosec.exchange https://1passwordstatic.com/files/security/1password-white-paper.pdf "At present there’s no practical method for a user to verify the public key they’re encrypting data to belongs to their intended recipient. As a consequence it would be possible for a malicious or compromised 1Password server to provide dishonest public keys to the user, and run a successful attack. Under such an attack, it would be possible for the 1Password server to acquire vault encryption...

So… “your data is safe even if the server is breached” and also “nothing can prevent data compromise if an attacker controls the server”. Subtle difference, I guess - maybe your vault is uncrackable if the data leaks/is stolen, but the actual worst case threat model is where an attacker has backdoored your infrastructure. (2/3)

I’ve come to realize as an “unc” that there is a whole generation for which “the Internet” is Reddit, TikTok, and Discord. None of these people will move off of Discord, just like the Reddit revolt, at the end of the day the platforms locked down control once they were already too entrenched to be dislodged. It’s supremely annoying to me since there are a lot of projects that are Discord-primary for support 😕

@verge@mastodon.social Just another grift to vacuum up donor-class cash. The cynicism of the Democratic Party insiders is bottomless and very lucrative for all involved.
