Empire has a fun #GroupSkate planned for Sunday, May 31. We will be rolling the Bronx River Parkway during the hours when it is closed to traffic. Meet up is at the Westchester County Center in White Plains at 11 a.m., close to the Metro North station. We'll roll the parkway until about 1:30. Afterwards, some will do an extra skate up to the Kensico Dam and back. Details on the Empire calendar at https://empireskate.org/calendar.html #InlineSkating #NYC

Whoa, the wind aside, Sunday May 3 was a beautiful day for #InlineSkating in #NYC. And to cap it off, as we were closing out a day of rolling 100k, we discovered that the north 1/3 of the #CentralPark loop has been resurfaced! Apparently so very recently that they haven't started re-striping the lanes yet.

Whoa. So our comments about re-surfacing on the north end of the #CentralPark loop on Sunday? We discovered on Monday that the 102nd St service road had also been resurfaced. So all you slackers (cough!) who have been avoiding rolling "cut-off loops" because of crappy asphalt, your excuse is no longer accepted! #NYC #InlineSkating

Three days of perfect #InlineSkating weather in a row. We hope #NYC skate peeps have been out enjoying them. Even better has been rolling streets recently resurfaced. Tuesday evening, we managed to hit six of them! Fifth Ave btw the park and the library, 42nd St from the library to Times Sq, Avenue A, Grand St, Mott St, and Mulberry St.

Empire has a massive-ly long #GroupSkate scheduled for Saturday. Its a six-boro skate. Yes, six. Because reaching Staten Island on the ground means rolling through our favorite parts of Jersey. It's an estimated 55 miles (jeepers!) if you do the whole thing, starting from the Grand Army entrance to BK's Prospect Park at 9:45 a.m. (Sat, May 2) and rolling all the way to SI. Plenty of opportunities to join up en route or bail out early. Let us know if you need contact info for th...

Ooooh, Empire's Big Apple Roll has posted their 2026 event graphic to their website. Remember, the BAR #GroupSkate weekend is Jul 30-Aug 2 this year, or Jul 27-Aug 2 if you include the special edition weekly group skates in advance. https://bigappleroll.org/ #InlineSKating #NYC

We rolled on Monday, after the snow and stuff of the weekend. Plan was for Red Hook to see the QM2 sail about sunset, but alas, she departed late, and the roads around there suck and the lighting is poor. Add to that, despite a stiff south wind, the WSBP was NOT dry. But! we were amongst the many taking gorjo sunset pix from the Manhattan Bridge.

It was 15°F Tuesday night, but Empire's Tuesday Night Skate rolled to Red Hook! (We were not with them, because OMG 15°F!) #InlineSkating #NYC

Wow, our #Strava feed suddenly got thin. #NYC skaters aren't rolling because street conditions suck, even though some we know would roll in these temperatures if the roads were dry. Meanwhile, some other folks we follow down under in Aussie are dealing with temperatures that are +100°F higher! OMG! #InlineSkating

It's been tough days for #InlineSkating in #NYC for a week plus. The cold not so much but the slush and crud on the streets, OMG. Anyhow, we got in a 10-mile roll on Sunday 2/1 afternoon and arrived home safe and intact. Woot!

Wondering how many people in our Strava feed will be #inlineSkating in #Miami the next four days.

Miami Skater Migration is over, but some skaters remain in Florida for today's (Tuesday) Homestead Ultra Skate, a "how far can you skate in 24 hours" track event (think 24 Hours of Le Mans, but y'know, in Florida). One skater from DC whom we follow on Strava rolled 300+ miles there last year. Looking forward to see the numbers that people post soon, including Allegra from #Brooklyn. #InlineSkating #SpeedSkating

It's March 6, which means the start of April is less than 4 weeks away. That means official start of the #NYC Official Wednesday Night Skate #InlineSkating #GroupSkate and also inline #speedskating training on the #Brooklyn #ProspectPark loop. We can't wait.

Nearly perfect #InlineSkating weather in #NYC Monday evening. So good that the NJ Monday Night Skate across the river unofficially started their 2026 season a month early. And so many inline speedskaters emerged from their winter dens and started doing loops!

We've added three more out-of-town #GroupSkate weekends to the Empire website calendar: Philadelphia, Skate DC, and LA Big Avocado Roll. Already done are the two Miami events. Houston is next week, then Atlanta kicks off the summer season, followed by DC Skate of the Union, Philly, Portland, Seattle, NYC BAR, Skate DC, and LA. Still waiting for word on Boston, Chicago, Toronto and San Antonio's dates, but none of those will be earlier than mid August. https://empireskate.org/...

Weather is getting weird again and the next week or so could be brrrrr cold. Nevertheless, there were many signs this past week of #NYC #InlineSkating peeps welcoming the onset of spring. There was the earlier than expected NJ Monday Night Skate, and yesterday, it seems various Empire Speed members got together to do loops in #Brookyn #ProspectPark. Also, there were the Strava reports of peeps posting up miles rolling to Red Hook or circling about inner Queens. Woot! #InlineSkating

It's late March, and #NYC skaters are easing into the new #InlineSkating season. Empire Speed have rolled a couple Sunday sessions on the Prospect Park loop, but they always start early. In a few weeks they'll also be training on the CP loop on Thursday evening. For the rest of us, it's just a week to the first Wednesday Night Skate of 2026. The NJ Monday Night Skate will also start soon, although they rolled a pre-season event a few weeks ago when the weather was fin...

And we're off! All three regular weekly #InlineSkating #GroupSkate events in the #NYC metro area are now rolling for 2026. Monday night the We Skate NJ group rolled the shoreline on the west side of the Hudson. The next night, Empire's Tuesday Night Skate went nuts and rolled to Yonkers (OMG!) and back. And then the NYC Wednesday Night Skate officially launched their season, posting up a short one of about 12 miles to Central Park and back before the impending rain.

We're seeing on Strava that a small number of the hardcore were out #InlineSkating #NYC on Wed and Thu nights. They must know some magical bearing maintenance scheme, because we rolled all of 6.5 miles tonight (Fri) and expect that our bearings are a mess. Also, the rough streets and potholes that have developed over the past month. OMG! Hard to skate after dark because who knows what is waiting to trip you up and take you down.
