Amen! https://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2026/06/26/free-the-icons/ Squircle Jail is the worst design-related thing Apple has ever done to Mac developers, and probably the worst icon-related thing it has ever done, period. Incredibly developer-hostile. If squircled icons are actually better, then let that design win in the market. That's how we transitioned from the classic Mac OS icon style to the more photorealistic Mac OS X icon style. Developers adopted it because they wanted to, and becau...

In a very special episode of @atpfm, we interview two of Apple’s Swift experts, @holly and @airspeedswift! This episode does go quite deep on some nerdy developer topics, but we loved every minute of it, and we hope you do too. https://atp.fm/atp-interview-holly-borla-ben-cohen

Our @atpfm WWDC 2026 sale includes a set of shirts that attempt to match the colors of the MacBook Neo, right down to the subtly tinted logo that’s meant to match the tinted keyboard colors. (The Indigo and Blush are probably the most successful. Yes, the Silver is clearly too dark. We were limited by the available shirt colors, but we did our best.) http://atp.fm/store

I'm getting a steady trickle of crash reports for an AppKit-related crash that I can't reproduce at all. Can anyone at Apple shed any light on what might cause this assertion to fail while my app is quitting? ![[NSApp _openWindows] NS_containsObjectIdenticalTo:self] A partial backtrace is in the image. Various LLMs did disassembly to attribute the __assert_rtn to the specific assertion shown above, and I don't know how to tell if they're right…

Rob McGinley Myers and Britta Greene just released an episode of their podcast, Phonograph, about “The Greatest Podcast Ad Campaign of All Time,” featuring me and some other folks I know. I’m not sure if it’s more interesting if you already know about the events it describes, or if you don’t! Either way, check it out. @chartier I think they’re trying to tell you to adjust the brightness slider on the bottom until just lose sight of the gray window square thing in the middle. Like, as soon as the screen turns all black. That’s why the icons on the right have a checkmark (“it should look like this”) and an “x” (“it should not look like this”). This is my guess, anyway.

I want to highlight two fun bits from this week’s episode of @atpfm https://atp.fm/683 First, we put the “hands on” into our very touchy-feely report about the MacBook Neo (starts at 24:00) https://overcast.fm/+BQnv4MC0jU/24:00 But the real star of the episode is @marcoarment’s amazing story of how he, as a lone developer, created a transcripts feature for @overcastfm to compete with the similar feature in Apple Podcasts. You do not want to miss this one. (starts at 54:46) https://overcast.f...

Five years ago today, after listening to some negative discussion on @atpfm, someone on Twitter angrily predicted that “in 5 years, Tesla will have a marketcap at least 5 times larger than Apple.” I made a calendar event for this prediction, because I am petty. But now the account that posted it has deleted all its tweets, ruining the fun.
