Soft serve, uh I mean, software engineeress from Germany. 👩‍💻 (In case you don’t know, software is that fluffy stuff in your puter.)<br /><br />My interests are fairly diverse. I love pretty much everything related to cyberspace. Whether that&#039;s server infrastructure, algorithms, compsci or hardware design. Music is another big passion of mine. I listen to practically every genre, and I used to be a drummer playing classical stuff, jazz and pop. Regarding narrative media, I particularly enjoy escapist fiction in movies, anime and books - I&#039;ve been reading a lot of isekai light-novels lately.<br /><br />Besides my main interests, I post about cool or interesting things I find online, random thoughts and hot-takes, but also little nuggets from my real life.<br /><br />I&#039;m always

I wonder if the first person has a different meaning for an AI. Like: For an LLM fundamentally everything is text. The user input, tool results, system prompt and also its own output. So without context (as in &amp;quot;this is what the user said&amp;quot;), the word &amp;quot;I&amp;quot; could mean either the model identity or the user.

I do not understand why Google is such a popular search engine... It just seems buggy to me.

Hot take: Flatpak solves a legitimate problem. Multiple in fact. The sandbox aspect is honestly the least interesting to me.

Random question: Which smart TV OS is the least... well... smart? I&#39;m looking for a decent TV around 55&quot;-60&quot; with as little ads and surveillance in it as possible. Any pointers?

Apparently my NAS crashed. Interestingly though, the computer instance that mounts it via NFS was still online - though nothing was working. Brought the NAS back online and restarted the important VMs and everything went back to working. I’m positively surprised how well my systems tolerated a disappearing storage server. 😅

Hot Take: SNI in its current form is bad… The server name should not be transmitted in plain text. At least put it behind DH, so passive MITM sniffing doesn’t work anymore…

Soo, I just found a mosquito in my room. It was unusually big, but I didn’t make the connection. So I just squished it on the wall. The issue: Apparently I was the main course last night, so when I squished it it exploded my blood all over the wall…

This morning I was watching a Fern video on YouTube. Google managed to show me 5 (five) ads on a 20 minute video. So I decided to not watch YouTube for a while - as a sort of feedback, you know? Kinda regretting it right now. I feel the need to distract myself…

I ordered a print from the USA. According to the courier the customs office raised some issues regarding the package. … I’m sorry. They what? It’s a f*cking piece of paper. I don&amp;#039;t see the artist wrongly declaring the contents either. What could possibly be the issue here?

&amp;quot;quick code review&amp;quot;… &amp;quot;1.5k LoC&amp;quot;… I’m getting flashbacks to a rather negative discussion I recently had with an “AI first&amp;quot; fanatic who said (and I quote): &amp;quot;Do we really need code reviews?&amp;quot; leaving me and the other developers in the room stunned…

Back on Twitter I had this automated account that posted a song each day with links to a bunch of streaming providers and a description of the song and artist. Would you be interested if I build something like that on fedi as well?

Poll: Do you consider embedding models a harmful form of AI? Reposts are welcome! Feel free to elaborate in the replies. Below you can find an explanation of what embedding models are. Embedding models are machine-learning models, that are also trained on ginormous amounts of data, but they are not transformers and don’t produce new output. Instead they condense the input into a large vector that represents its meaning. Because it’s a vector you can do calculations on it. This is useful for stu...
