So, tuning in to the QSO Today podcast, I heard about the 44net again. I haven't heard anything about this for maybe 30 years, and I think about 30 years ago I got an IP address connected to my call sign, but there wasn't enough activity in my area to become active. started the process of verifying my call sign so I can see if my IP address is still connected. This sounds like a huge rabbit hole that I have not been down in decades. Hoping there's something there and active now Links...

When I first got my amateur radio license, I spent most of my time in the novice area of the 40-meter band. That's where I learned Morse code and got my Morse code up to speed so that I could go to other areas of the band. I really need to make an effort to go and see if there are still people hanging out on the novice area of the 40-meter band and slow it down and help some people along. I think it was somewhere around 7.100 #AmateurRadio #MorseCode

A #Mastodon app for the #HaikuOS might be a fun little project

I got a #Lemmy account set up on the #Fediverse at lemmy.radio, and I'm looking for suggestions for communities to follow that discuss things like: - the Gemini Protocol - Ham Radio Operation CW - the Fediverse in general - fountain pens and penmanship - music synthesis - Productivity and automation - Software development on macOS - HaikuOS Let me know if you have any suggestions, and I'll subscribe.

I haven't used #Reddit in a whole bunch of years, but I'm wondering if I should start looking at a #Fediverse version of Reddit and which ones are out there right now. I think I read somewhere that they could connect to #Mastodon Maybe that'll be my digging around project for this afternoon

I put together a blog post on installing #HaikuOS on a new-ish MacBook Pro. YMMV, but I would love to hear reports from other people who have and their success level on this. I had a few blips here and there, but I've blogged the happy path that got me up and running. https://sergio101.com/installing-haiku-os-on-a-macbook-pro/ gemini://gemini.sergio101.com/installing-haiku-os-on-a-macbook-pro/

This weekend, my trial of #WisprFlow ended, and I got back on my system and decided I wanted to use it without Wispr Flow to see if I missed it. Exactly 12 minutes into a regular work session, I couldn't stand using it anymore, so I bought the pro version of Wispr Flow, which is actually really cheap anyway. You can get a 30-day trial with my referral link. https://wisprflow.ai/r/SERGIO1847

I got #HaikuOS up and running on my MacBook Pro. Let me know if this is interesting enough for me to write up a step-by-step guide.

This weekend, I really need to check into running #HaikuOS on a #MacBookPro. I really loved #BeOS back in the day, and it seems like this would be a fun little plafform to develop apps for fun.

Super impressed by the brute force efforts of my fair city, Ashland, Ohio. If we had time and effort to throw at it, it might be fun to hack the data being gathered by #Flock cameras and rebroadcast it all in real time. I would probably need to figure out how to stream over #Tor. https://www.instagram.com/reel/Da1KarqJcbA/?igsh=MWVxZjVuMXI3cmVkcw==I #privacy #surveillance #FlockSafety #ALPRs #ALPR #EFF #SurveillanceState #MassSurveillance

Did you ever have that friend who always checked the coin return in every payphone that you passed?

@smalldog@social.smalldog.club AWESOME! I think i first got licensed in 1992 in Ohio.. and i have only had #QRP until about 2 years ago, i got my first radio off the shelf. Yeasu FT-710. It's the first time i have ever had more than 12 watts ( i built an #elecraft k1 and k2).. But I still love my QRP radios. If i am totally being honest, I just ordered the QMX+ for me, too. I still have never talked on the Yeasu or turned the power past 30 watts.

I just had two younger people, one still in high school and one in their mid-20s, ask me if I would help them get their ham radio license. Of course I will, and for each of them, I promised that if they get their license, I would buy them a QMX Plus kit from QRP Labs and get them active on CW and digital modes. I'm actually kind of considering getting that ticket that lets you proctor the amateur radio exams https://qrp-labs.com/qmxp.html #AmateurRadio #MorseCode #QRP

Every now and then, I am super tempted to go check out the interviews with Anika Nilles, but then I think, "what is there to talk about?" So, I have not seen or read any interviews. I kind of want to just go see the whole thing for myself, but it's so expensive. #Drummer #Rush

I feel like people think it's a flex to pay super high concert ticket prices, and people have stopped complaining about it

@doug@mejia.social It's kinda like when I cut the cable and went streaming a whole long time ago. I had them come out and disconnect the cable, and nobody noticed for months But when they did, they freaked out

@doug@mejia.social I totally seriously let mine go way out of control, and the funny thing is I canceled a whole bunch of the video streaming services, and my kids never even caught on

@doug@mejia.social A few months ago, I made a concerted effort to rummage through all of my subscriptions and delete everything that I wasn't using. As far as video subscriptions, I knocked that down to two from lord knows how many

@doug@mejia.social I did try Fluid Voice and a few other ones, but this one was just spot on every time, and I didn't have to mess with anything. I do get it that another subscription is painful to manage, but I feel like this one is worth it. I keep on top of these things enough that if I decide later that it's not worth it, I'll just cancel it.

I've been using #WisprFlow for the past two weeks, and it's a game-changer. The only thing I wonder about is whether users accidentally leave it engaged and it picks up a conversation in the room and pastes it somewhere unexpected. This has happened to me a few times where the cursor wasn't where I expected, and it pasted into the wrong place. Note that this is an affiliate link if you are interested in checking this out. I finally started putting some blog posts together and decided to reference a link that is behind a paywall. I wanted to ensure that posting such links is acceptable on the Fediverse. It’s important to note that neither I nor anyone I know is expecting to make any money from this post. There is no affiliate link or any profit-driven intent involved. https://sergio101.com/thoughts-on-paywalls/ gemini://gemini.sergio101.com/thoughts-on-paywalls/ #Paywall #Fediverse #Mastodon

I need to check into what it takes to run #HaikuOS on a mac again. I tried it in the past, and it was kind of a pain, and i could never really get it to work right. but! this was years ago.

one day, i would love to set up a room of TRS-80's and C64s and have a text adventure party. Is there any interest in new text adventures? are people still writing them? #TextAdventure #Commodore64 #C64 #TRS80

I guess before I do all that, I need to figure out if a #blog is really a thing anymore. Do people still read blogs?

I need to sit down and think through how I want to do a blog. I want it to be: 1. #Obsidian based so that I can just update Obsidian to update my blog 2. Spit out content to a #GeminiProtocol version of the blog I think I just need to sit down with the idea and burp it. I feel like I already have a bazillion ideas for blog posts.

While I really like #WisprFlow, the biggest issue I have with it is that in the #iOS version you have to grant permission to use the microphone every time. I need to figure out how to get around this, but otherwise it's an awesome product.
