Fun fact: the guillotines used in the French Revolution were made from relatively soft (45-55HRC) carbon steel. Stainless steel wouldn't be invented for another 114 years. New guillotines built with modern alloy steel will boast greater corrosion resistance, hardness, and edge retention, thanks to advances in metallurgy. Hypothetically.
