i just learnt that the legal term for “tropes” is “scènes à faire” and i think that’s so sexy of the french. it’s things that must happen in a story to make that genre.

i love that some american thriller writers are trying to write nordic noir type stories, but they&#39;re missing something quite essential: the insularity of the nordic people and the fact they can trust their police, unlike americans.
