Welp, there goes our attempt to foster water-conserving long grass: we just got hit with a Toronto s.489-3.3.A order to comply. Gotta cut everything down to less than 20 cm by Saturday. Bet it was our neighbour's lawn guy who grassed on us. Was always "offering to help" ...

For Canada Day, I'd like to share The Most Canadian Picture ever. It also helps me to remember that colder temperatures are possible. This sled thingy was improvised by installers at Dave Rampel Solar farm on Rainy River First Nations land in NW Ontario (it's about 1 km from Minnesota). It was below -35 °C on that day, and the installers were finding that their cable ties were shattering from the cold. So they went home. #CanadaDay #solar

If you happen to like Canadian flight suits (Who wouldn't? They're comfy! With pockets in the right places!) and are fairly tall, Hero Outdoors have a bunch of new old stock blue ones for $25. This is an absolute steal. Hero does mail order. They're your standard slightly scary-looking military surplus store, but they are extremely friendly https://www.herooutdoors.com/canadian-armed-forces-blue-flight-suits-medium-long/ #canada #surplus

Dammit, I'm going to have to go round to Costco to sort out my order. It's still showing a delivery date of two days ago. What's worse, when I call the order line, it happily reads out the other two parts of the order, but when it gets to the main item it say "Please call back later, we have encountered an error" and hangs up.

If you rot13* the word 'gnat', you also reverse it: gnat → tang *: replace every letter with the one 13 places ahead of it: a → n, t → g (wraps round), etc.

Anyone seen a laser printer that decides to fade off the end of pages? My Brother printer does that for maybe 1 page in 5. It has plenty toner, the drum is clean, as is the corona wire. It's not a driver thing. I'm using good quality paper. I'm going to have to take this to The Printer Wizard, I just know it #laser #printer #brother #fade

Since everyone seems to be all about space programs, here's a very silly joke device from 50 years back: The Zlotnian Calculator, "Official Digital Calculator of the Zlotnian Space Program" While it was a joke, it was made by a very serious surveying instrument company, the Slope Indicator Company of Seattle, WA. more info: https://www.mccoys-kecatalogs.com/SpecialSubjects/Zlotnian_Calculator/zlotnian.htm

The cold and last night's rain must've put the redwing blackbirds' gas at a peep, so no shrieking sneak-attacks for me. I did have to negotiate right of way with a very proper gander, though. He was out promenading with his Lady and did not like the cut of my jib one bit.

What did Kurt Vonnegut do to deserve such shit movie versions of his books? The Slaughterhouse 5 movie is forgettable. The Breakfast of Champions movie is complete mince. The Slapstick movie is (reportedly) unwatchable.
