I work in #infosec and consider myself pretty well educated on what’s happening with #AI. But I’m about 33% of the way through @emilymbender@dair-community.social and Alex Hanna’s book, “The AI Con”, and I’ve really learned a lot more. If you’re skeptical or curious about AI, this is a must-read. I’m recommending it to everyone I know. #books #bookstodon #reading #AI #technology #nonfiction

Is it wrong to really hate #AI, and disable Copilot in Microsoft Outlook, then reenable it because you like the pretty colors of the Copilot b-hole logo, and then get mad all over again and disable it? #FuckAI #FuckCopilot #FuckMicrosoft

Big deal. Since they probably asked Claude to generate a strategy, it’ll leak into Google search results and we can just read it there. #AI #FuckAI https://fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.wired.com/story/the-white-house-is-keeping-its-ai-cybersecurity-framework-secret/

I recently followed this helpful guide from @mbootsman@toot.re to set up a self-signed TLS Certificate for my #HomeAssistant Green device. The process was easy to follow and super-helpful. Thanks, Marcel! #homeassistant #homenetworking #homelab #infosec https://marcelbootsman.nl/notes/add-a-self-signed-ssl-certificate-to-home-assistant-local-https/

I have a question for all the #HomeAssistant junkies out there... I happen to be reviewing my @runZeroInc@infosec.exchange report today for my home network, and I see my Home Assistant Green seems to be bound to an IP address in the Phillipines. I live in the United States, so this immediately seems suspicious. The only network connection I see is an ARP request on port 0 (also weird). Do I yank this thing off my network? Does anybody know what this could be? https://ipinfo.io/49.150.192.1...

If you use a #web browser other than Apple Safari, there's an awesome #privacy preserving extension you can install called Privacy Badger. It's an excellent free tool that stops advertisers and other third-party trackers: If an advertiser seems to be tracking you across multiple websites without your permission, Privacy Badger automatically blocks that advertiser from loading any more content in your browser. To the advertiser, it’s like you suddenly disappeared. This isn't strict...

I’ve decided to post several bite-sized privacy tips here using the hashtag #QuickPrivacyTips. For many folks here, especially those following the #privacy hashtag, these tips might seem basic or obvious. I’m hoping to reach folks who maybe haven’t come across some of these tips. Any help we can offer regarding digital privacy I think is good.

On iPhone and iPad, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. Toggle “Allow Apps to Request to Track” to the off position. More details about what this does: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/control-app-tracking-permissions-iph4f4cbd242/ios #QuickPrivacyTips #iOS #Apple #privacy

Friends, I need some help and advice. Microsoft recently announced retirement of Microsoft-provided SMS and voice authentication in Entra ID. Of course, "good", you say -- me, too. But I'm working with an organization that has some extremely non-techie employees, and I've got to figure out the easiest path to help them get properly on-boarded with Passkeys. Microsoft Authenticator seems to support Passkeys natively (the key is stored IN MS Authenticator). Is this the best wa...

Read what @simon@fedi.simonwillison.net has to say about OpenAI/Hugging Face situation. It’s pretty clear what happened here. OpenAI removed safety filters for an in-progress model, locked it up in a sandbox and told it to solve the ExploitGym problems. Given the absence of guardrails there was nothing to prevent the model from attempting to break out of that sandbox, break into Hugging Face, and read the answers from there instead. #AI #OpenAI #HuggingFace #infosec #cybersecurity https://sim...

Hot take: I hate how all these articles talk about how OpenAI’s clanker “broke out” and attacked Hugging Face. No, OpenAI’s dog slipped its chain because they don’t know what the hell they’re doing, and it bit another dog. #AI #SlopPocalypse #FuckAI #Infosec #cybersecurity
