  I keep seeing people talking about "the big 3" when it comes to desktop environments, but the reality is that there are actually many others, and some of these are actively developed and have their own significant user bases. They're just not nearly as popular within Linux/FOSS media spaces. But Pantheon, Enlightenment, UKUI, Deepin, and others, are very much alive and well, even if we don't talk about them that much.

Now the real challenge will be, can they land on a model that's portable enough to be useful on a wide array of systems? Because let's face it - many of the lighter weight models are... not very helpful. The helpful models are HEAVY. This will be interesting.

  Sometimes I do contemplate switching from Ubuntu, but frankly I don't know what distro I'd choose next. I like the concept of rolling releases because I often use pre-release or freshly released software anyway, but I also like the stability and smoothness of less "volatile" systems. If you had to jump ship now, what would you choose?

  You know, I've been annyoed in the past, but I'm going to give credit where it's due and say Linus is actually giving Linux a fair shake this time (in the LMG clips I've seen), instead of being sensational/giving negative impressions (without research) for the sake of views. That's commendable (and needed). Criticism is fine (and necessary). Sensationalism is not.

  You know, I may not be the biggest fan of KDE's visual style (GNOME is much, much more polished and streamlined), but one thing I gotta hand it to them for - they really know how to make things like installing missing plugins seamless. Tried to install a flatpak with discover. Discover didn't have the plugin. So you know what it did? Took me straight to the plugin so I could install it. Simple, but brilliant.
