  @StevenLawsonPhotography 90% of the total market for AI data centres is limited to 2 companies, OpenAI and Anthropic, neither of which show sign of ever generating a return on the 100s of billions invested in these centres. A rough cost estimate is £40 million per MWh of power consumption, with 3/4 of this spent on computer hardware that lasts about 3 years. It is likely that most of the centres now being built in the US will never recover their up-front costs.

  I just came across something I didn't know ( I don't follow the financial press so must have missed the announcement ). The US Mastercard corporation owns the company that operates much of the UK’s core payments infrastructure, including Bacs, Faster Payments and LINK. So much for digital sovereignty.

  @jackwilliambell If they can greatly expand the US forces in Greenland and Alaska then they're in a much better position to blockade Canada.
