I still find it amusing that Dom DeLuise's son Peter was a producer and writer for Stargate SG-1 and of course Dom had a character on the show too

I've always had trouble with learning to do OOP in Ada. This blog post helped a lot: https://entropicthoughts.com/object-oriented-programming-in-ada as a result my Ada impl of Crafting Interpreters is starting to do something. Well, I can read a file through the Streams_IO package, and that'll let me actually write the lexer.

I'm really starting to question if I can remain in tech. Or at least within tech companies. Philosophically I'm hitting my limit with how it's going. But I can't really leave without losing, well, everything. So. Fuck my life I guess.

I made it exactly 12 minutes into the movie "Mercy" before I turned it off. It's not just that the premise is bad, but the effects and "UIs" in it are even worse.

Well let's see here. One person, Mike Johnson, blocked the funding bill. Trump is now going to allocate funding himself. Which he doesn't have constitutional authority to do. These fuckers need to all be put in prison. Permanently.

"AI is the future" I could not get Claude to understand today that it could consult a git log, run find, awk, grep without asking for my permission today no matter how I phrased it or configured it, it kept prompting me. If I wanted to do that manually, I wouldn't have asked Claude. This is a tool I'm required to use at work, and it actively slows me down.

I also regularly see really detailed, long prompts that are given to a AI. The time it takes to write something that detailed, and the test cycles, cannot be that much faster than just doing the task yourself. Maybe having 32 years of professional experience gives me a bias there, but I'm having a hard time challenging that bias.

I'm not saying there aren't usecases for AI, but I'm just not seeing it in coding. Humans have a hard time writing detailed enough specifications to start with - and that's what's required for an AI to work. It can't make the cognitive connections a human brain can. Maybe someday it can, but at what cost?

If the AI tooling works for you, that's awesome. But this feels like dictating if you use emacs or vi or VSCode in some ways.
