  Been a bit quiet - we had some awful family news last week which I won’t go in to. Off to France tomorrow where I hope exploring, record hunting, cooking and music will help us all cope with it. As much as it can, anyway. No WiFi where we are heading so sporadic updates will follow.

  Last year we were incredibly lucky to find ourselves in the middle of this festival near Vannes in Brittany. It remains one of the best evenings of my life, and this video doesn’t really do it justice, but you can get a feel for it. Almost 100 different Breton bands marching and playing so evocatively.   Ok, I can’t seem to land on what I want for my writer deck, but this seems to tick all the boxes. The Thinkpad is just too chunky to be easily portable, so I needed something small, light, no distractions, simple and an unbloated OS. This little 10inch ultra portable netbook seems to fit the bill. And for the princely sum of £35 it is now mine. Might need to buy a new battery for it at some stage but it’s not a great deal of money to take a punt on. #WriterDeck #NetBook

  Having my first early evening tipple in this. I had forgotten I had it but as soon as I saw it I remember where I got it. Took my dad to a British & Irish Lions game probably 20 odd years ago. I still miss him around big sporting events - he would have loved moaning about this World Cup and sharing his wisdom. When I watch cricket test matches I find myself often reaching for the phone to message him. It’s been 10 years now :(
