In the last five years, we've gone from "employees will never have to go into an office" to "employees need to be in the office because creative and innovative work can only be done face-to-face between humans" to "lol we don't need humans"

RE: https://mastodon.social/@anewsocial/116557384846347650 Not only do we ship a ton of features at @anewsocial, we also spend a lot of time thinking through how we can use every dollar donated efficiently. Really appreciate @snarfed.org breaking down all the ways he's optimized Bridgy Fed to stretch every cent so we can keep running this long-term.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@fediversereport/116528880367588655 Turns out, bridging is as important as we've been saying it is! When the competition has an infinite money spigot, the path forward is solidarity and leaning into the openness of the tools available. I'm glad to see that folks are finally realizing it. Now, say it with me: people, not platforms.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@anewsocial/116523024075066848 Infrastructure isn't cheap, especially when you have nearly 150K accounts, most of which are *very* active. Please consider donating! We have tiers starting at less than $1/mo if you subscribe annually. We have a lot more coming, and Bridgy Fed and Bounce will be the foundation for all of it.

One great feature that Mastodon and Bluesky have that Threads doesn't is that their leadership doesn't congratulate fascists for accomplishing their goals.

Those kickoff demos were such a boost of excitement as #FediForum starts this morning. The whole community is up to some seriously cool work, and it's great to see the maturity in the kind of services people are launching/announcing at the conference.

This is a fantastic intro to the open social web tech under the hood of the Bluesky app. I know folks here are sometimes apprehensive about what the Bluesky PBC is building, but I think it's worth understanding why a whole bunch of nerds like me are excited about AT Protocol, even though we also cheer for, build on, and spread the word about ActivityPub. @mackuba does a great job of simplifying complex ideas, and I highly recommend giving this a read. https://martianbase.net/@mackuba...

"[Blacksky] started out by developing our own custom feeds. For our app, the Blacksky Trending feed is the default feed for new users [...] When new users sign up and create an account, their data will be hosted by us, and they will agree to our Terms of Service and privacy policy, and not Blueskyβs. Existing users can migrate their account to our servers, but they can use Blacksky no matter who is hosting their account!" https://newpublic.substack.com/p/how-blacksky-grew-to-m...

@iftas is conducting its annual needs assessment survey, inviting Fediverse moderators, administrators, and community managers to provide input on how IFTAS can help them. In the past, this has led to the development of critical tools for CSAM detection and reporting, regulatory compliance guidance, and so much more. If you're a mod, admin, or community manager, fill out this survey so IFTAS can put its resources in the right place: https://about.iftas.org/moderator-needs-assessment/

RE: https://liberal.city/@wjmaggos/116426227781017098 Again, I, among many others, am working on user agency, not top down mandates about what technology everyone should use. People, not platforms includes "not protocols". If you're still having arguments about protocols in 2026, you've already fell behind. Listen to the people or they will not listen to you, because they weren't last year or the year before or the year before that.
